This whole Max vs Justin thing...

When he made his first attempt at lightweight he was the favorite against Poirier. It absolutely has to do with it.
I think it has more to do with the fact that leg kicks are pretty effective against max as shown with the volk fights, and that Gaethje is pretty hard to knock out. Max isn't known to hit hard, and moving up a weightclass his power may not translate.

Then let it be about that! Awesome KO no?

If we're gonna go deep on it, you're clearly triggered. What about Aldo getting ktfo is lame?
Nothing, Really. I dont hate the user name. I do like the user name rank squatter more. I see them as very similar. Cute ways to take a dig at a fighter, Or acknowledge something.

He's been KO'd twice in the UFC, and dropped on multiple occasions. Max has never even been dropped.

Again, he was the favorite going into his first lightweight fight. There's no reason to downplay this fight other than remembering how his first 155 fight went. It absolutely is affecting how people are viewing this fight.

Still not sitting right with me ..

WHY ??

This is suicide imo for the man who leaves "No turn unstoned "

You're fucked Max Holloway !! and welcome to you Justins Highlight Reel .. first time we see Max lights out cause Justin is gonna finally crack that chin once and for all

Head to the Casino and put all the gaeCHEESE on Justin !!

justin is likely going to win by a good margin but still hoping max pulls it off. it would be better to swap max out with some T10 lightweight like Dariush or Chandler since that mcnuggets fight is not happening anytime soon.

This is mainly because I think Max should gear up to fight Ilia because he's the only FW that won't completely disentegrate against Ilia and as much as I love Ortega and Yair, they can't do squat against Ilia.

I like rank squatter too. Especially when it's obvious he's refering to Colby.

Was just weird when he started to hate on fighters not rank squatting. Live up to your shit bro

Again, I just explained why it was a bad match up with out mentioning Dustin porier or anything that happened in those match ups.

Im not sure what you mean by "downplaying" this fight. Im excited for this fight, I Do think it will be competitive, but there's no chance In hell I'd put my money on max. It's not the squash match people make it out to be, but I see max as clearly disadvantaged.

TKO, same with Dustin. The Just Bleed God has never been completely stopped or put out cold (so far), and but for the referees, he'd have recovered or went pure zombie mode and killed someone. One does not simply KO Justin Gaethje.
Dude he dropped like an open sack of potatoes, he wasn't getting up from that knee.

You're right though, he's never been put out cold.

Doesn't change that most people are reacting based on the Poirier fight. He was the favorite going into that fight and everyone was excited to see him at lightweight. Go back and read the threads. Now all of a sudden everyone is downplaying this fight and saying he is going to get slaughtered and you think it has nothing to do with that previous fight?

I've seen many people down playing this fight, you can see the comments in this very thread.

So you agree people are downplaying this fight.

but I see max as clearly disadvantaged.
I see it as a competitive matchup either guy can win. Gaethje has the power advantage. Max has the chin and cardio advantage.

I think most people see a Weakness in Legkicks which Gaethje is known for big time. Max has shown in the past he has a hard time dealing with leg kicks and gaethje is one of the best leg kickers ever. Yes, SOME users may point to his previously failed bid at LW, but on paper, at anyweight this matchup spells trouble for him. I've seen many posters say this exact thing. Without ever bringing up porier or his previous LW fight.

I've seen many people down playing this fight, you can see the comments in this very thread.

Again, Not sure what you mean by Downplay this fight. I think the match making frustrates a lot of people because these are both Potential opponents for the divisions champion. I think everyone Acknowledges that this fight will be entertaining, but It's not the type of match making people like. It has nothing to do with max IMO. People just dont want this fight to happen which is why you here a lot of people say ufc 299 was better than 300, even though it's clearly not. It's just them being salty, they are going to watch the fight and enjoy it. People dont like the circumstances surrounding the fight.

Here's comments from this thread that kinda Points out what i mean
It's a superb fight at completely the wrong time in terms of where their respective divisions are.
BMF belt sucks - dumb AF
I'm sure the fight will be entertaining, not a fan of it as far as any relevance (freaking lame)

They know it's a good fight, they just aren't happy about it.

It's not the squash match people make it out to be

if that's what we're calling downplaying the match up, I guess I'd agree. I feel like "downplaying" is like reverse shilling. This match up has been talked about a lot.... I've heard people say that it should the co-main over zhang and xioyan (I agree) I wouldn't call that downplaying the fight either.... the fight everyone is downplaying is bo nickal if there were any one fight on this card to downplay.

I see it as a competitive matchup either guy can win. Gaethje has the power advantage. Max has the chin and cardio advantage.

Maybe. I think max's chin will crack any day now. He has poor striking defense and absorbs FAR too many shots That levy will break soon and if it'll break against anyone, it's topuria or gaethje.

I hope it pays well for Max if he takes it
He’s getting ppv points on 300. Anybody that does should make a nice chunk of change being on that card. It should sell a million ppv easily.

And you gotta respect him stepping up to fight another big punching, and kicking LW, like Justin. At least he’s apparently beefing up a bit. As compared to just cutting less weight for the Dustin LW IC fight.

I really hope he wins, but he’s got his work cut out for him.

Why do so many people have a problem with this fight????? It's a great fun fight. We need these every now and then. Not every fight has to be for a contender spot or a title shot.

The only part the really bugs me about this fight is that it was planned before Volk lost to Topuria, and Max vs Topuria seems like a logical next title fight to me, this either delays or outright prevents the depending on how it goes.

Otherwise I think is a fun matchup, two guys that know how to throw, I just don't love the timing in retrospect.

It's possible that Justin can win, but I think he is very overvalued at the moment. That head kick against Dustin was an unlikely result, more times than not he gets pressured and ate up by Dustin.

Max can win this fight; he just needs to avoid taking a lot of damage early. Justin will wilt from boxing pressure, but you gotta gas him and make him miss first.

Is Max properly bulked and in shape for this fight?
Is he going to at least try to check the low kicks?

If he does that he should be fine. Pour it on when Justin starts to fade, let him miss and stress out. Now if Max fights like an idiot and learned nothing from the Dustin fight, then he's toast. If he fights tactically, this is very winnable.

Max isn't the size of a lightweight and he's going to be very under powered. It was obvious in his 155 fight with Poirier, he was getting hurt by Dustin but couldn't get respect back with his punches. It was competitive but Max got hurt pretty bad.

Weight classes exist for a reason and Max is tall for featherweight but built like a coat hanger. He isn't the body mass of a lightweight and would probably need a year to grow into the weight.

I think this should be something like 60/40 JG. Maybe 70/30. Its MMA, anything can happen etc, but this is really stacked against Max.

You're basing your opinion on a 5 year old fight in which he didn't get finished by a guy with serious KO power at LW. Max has a chin as good if not better than most LWs. I think he will do a lot better than people think.
I just don't see it happening. I love Max too.

Disagree with all of this. Justin evolved much more than Dustin and at a much faster rate.

Max is a true warrior, a real fighter. I'm not saying it's a good idea, but I appreciate that Max is reaching for greatness. Neither him or Gaejthe really needed this fight actually; they both coulda just waited for a title shot.

He probably won't win... but what if he does?

I don't want this fight. I want them fighting for titles in their divisions.

It's a nonsensical fight, but it's supposed to be entertaining for the fans.

more like torture because most of us like Max (and Justin too) and he's very likely to be beat up by a bigger proper LW.
