Really struggling and falling behind in BJJ

Stop worrying about who taps you in the gym. Enjoy being grinded on by that 20 year old. Don't always pull guard or everyone will know and shut you down. Step out of your comfort level and don't compare yourself to other people. This is your marathon not there's. Just keep showing up. Sounds...

Best Competition Shin Guards for Muay Thai

Hey guys. I'm looking for a pair of shin guards I can wear while competing. Can someone recommend a brand that are nice and thin for me to order but still decent quality. I have a pair of Top King shin guards I used to fight in last weekend but they are too thick for competition. Thanks!

    My recent sparring session

This. If you wanted constructive criticism post a video of you sparring someone of your skill level where you are actually going and we can see how you react under pressure, getting hit, etc. Not just a "rusty" video of you after a 3 week break with a beginner. When sparring with beginners let...

    Dustin "Clean" Denes seminar!

Dustin is one of the most entertaining instructors I've ever trained with. Love his warrior mindset. He knows how to get you pumped for a competition!

Being the smallest guy in your division

The trick to going against big guys is to just set a really fast pace to tire them out. As long as they are constantly having to defend sweeps and sub attempts they will not be able to get any offense off. Also when you start standing get them to chase you around for a bit, as soon as I see my...

    Brown Belt "Master" ?

Maybe he is a master in another style and calls himself that..? I don't know but I find it silly for any bjj brown belt to refer to themselves as master.

BJJ schools with adult green belts?

Yes I know that and just said above that I'm not against it either as I was a green belt at one time. That just seems to be the most frequent argument I've read against having green belts. And I get where they are coming from.

Must you keep you hands back or close to body to generate power

I agree with Stoupe^. Spar and see how it goes. Everyone strikes differently and there's not one correct way to do things. For power, however, I feel close to your head will give you the most power. As you've got a greater distance for your punch to travel and speed up. Imagine dropping a brick...

    Training structure

Something that may help you is to bring a notebook to class with you, preferably like a 5 subject notebook to keep different positions seperated. Right down notes on techniques you do in class and you can go back at any time and review the material, or ask your instructor to show you if you...

BJJ schools with adult green belts?

Just an inhouse rank used to seperate new white belts from advanced whites close to blue. Nothing wrong with it, imo. They would still compete as a white belt at a BJJ tournament. I do understand people wanting to keep it traditional though with white to blue. As first it's one belt added, then...

How to make knees more powerful

Keep the leg that's planted on the ground straight, don't bend at the knee. Also put your hips into it. If you want powerful knees though you'll need to practice and throw thousands of them on a bag.

    LASIK or PRK

No the flap never fully heals from LASIK surgery and that's why even years down the line getting hit or something can tear it open and do bad damage. I was told to wait around 6 months after PRK to spar hard or fight again. I have not had the surgery yet but plan on getting it done sometime...

    MMA sparring footages, please critique

One of the most foolish things I've ever read. If you don't want to wear head gear at least wear shin guards. Your thighs will thank you when you spar someone that actually knows how to throw a good kick. Not to mention accidents always happen and you may kick someones knee with the soft spot on...

Benefits of Attending a Seminar as a White Belt?

You'll benefit from a seminar at any belt level. Just bring a notebook and take notes to review later. One cool thing about a seminar is just being able to share the mats with these high level guys. I attended a Samuel seminar when I was a white belt and it was AWESOME. Samuel is a really cool...
