Social American History X on Netflix

We have made progress toward becoming a more-moral society over time.

I always suspicious of people who liked this movie a bit too much

I have several black friends who love the shit out of it.

17 years ago, I realized this I was watching it on duty once, and a black coworker of mine walks in and asks what I'm watching...suddenly realizing I'm watching a movie about skinheads, with N bombs being dropped and dudes getting curbstomped I nervously tell him...

"Oh fuck yeah, i love this movie, move over"

They need to re-make the film and edit out Derek dunking. That was straight up bullshit right there.

The National Socalist Workers Party, commonly referred to in English, as the Nazi Party

You morons don’t even know history, probably why you are trying to erase history
Didn't Hitler take the name of the 4 major parties on german and combine in one? As a Marketing ploy to give the impression his party was there to attend germans every need...

They were a Socalist party. I’m sorry that upsets your view on socialism, Hitler
You are one of the dumbest people on this forum, which is not very surprising in retrospect.

From your own link:
The SPD has been the ruling party at several points, first under Friedrich Ebert in 1918. The party was outlawed in Nazi Germany but returned to government in 1969 with Willy Brandt.
[...]

Being the only party in the Reichstag to have voted against the Enabling Act (with the Communist Party of Germany prevented from voting), the SPD was banned in the summer of 1933 by the new Nazi government. Many of its members were jailed or sent to Nazi concentration camps. An exile organization, known as Sopade, was established, initially in Prague. Others left the areas where they had been politically active and moved to other towns where they were not known.

Between 1936 and 1939 some SPD members fought in Spain for the Republic against Franco and the German Condor Legion.

After the annexation of Czechoslovakia in 1938 the exile party resettled in Paris and, after the defeat of France in 1940, in London. Only a few days after the outbreak of World War II in September 1939 the exiled SPD in Paris declared its support for the Allies and for the military removal from power of the Nazi government.

Quit looking for a message or symbolism bullshit. It's just good ol' movie about a white guy who hates black guys.

The movie is leftist propaganda and aims to conflate anxiety about society changing due to immigration with nazism and racism.

This film was pretty popular amongst me and my friends even though it was the Uk at the time (98-2000 era). I was 16 when it came out.

It was never regarded as a classic or must watch in the same way Fight Club was or even the Matrix, though one scene was regarded as essential viewing.

It is not a subtle film. I think conclusions drawn are based on the inherent ideas of the person viewing it. It's subjective.

I have seen it used as a clarion call for both racial understanding and for white supremacy in the twenty years since.

I think its a decent film. It's a bit all over the place. It's a film at the end of the day.

I regarded this is England ten years later as a more legit social comment.

Maybe if I was American I would get more out it. Anyway, racists gonna racist.

Reading some of the comments here about American history X reminds me of the time when I read the reviews of that Sam Jackson film, Unthinkable. (Ticking time bomb scenario, sam Jackson has to torture a Muslim terrorist to get info of where the bomb is)

The reviews were all over the place. many thought it was literal torture porn, glorifying torture as a good thing, and many others thought it was leftist propaganda.

I watched it tonight. It was very good.

Under the terms of measuring an individual only by the gross fatality of persons who perform the same action, any number of benign persons are more evil than Nazi murderers: guys who get in bar fights, truckers who drive on insufficient sleep, etc.
This is a really great point. That nicely boils away the feathers of this thing, exposes the ideological.
