I mentioned the Boston Bombers later but compare how many they killed with the death toll here. It was about a dozen, far less than the over 200 in this case. I don't think that's an accident.

There could be other factors to the difference in death toll rather than the explosive itself though. I was doing research for awhile on homicides in prison. For the last decade the rate of inmates being killed has been on a steady decline, so people wanted to know what was working to keep inmates from killing each other. The answer ended up being that the number of potentially lethal assaults is the same as it’s ever been, the emergency medical care available has just gotten much better, so you have the same number of assaults, but with fewer casualties. I’m not sure if something similar could apply in this case too.

It was most likely the explosives in this case though. The boston bombers used small pressure cooker bombs, basically gun powder inside of pressure cookers. The somalians most likely used a big ass truck filled with fertilizer or old artillery shells. We're talking a couple pounds vs tons of explosives.
