Dana White: Demetrious Johnson has the lowest selling PPVs in UFC History.

not really

mm bit the hand that feeds him by making ridiculous demands no fight promoter would ever agree to. This is why mm has a manager so he negotiates the contract not mm. mm negotiated himself into a black hole. Now he's probably screwed because the UFC can choose not to fight him if they want. What's mm going do about that take the UFC to court? Good luck with that!

???

They are fight promoters. Their job is to organize events and promote fighters.

The face of their company is on TV badmouthing a fighter. He is doing the opposite of his job. If the only job of the promotion is event organizer, why do they take 85%??

Its the promotion that is biting the hand that feeds them, not the fighters. There is no show without the fighters.

If you hired a pr firm, or independently contracted with them and they were on tv badmouthing you, how would you justify them being entitled to their payment?

This is beyond incompetence on Dana's part. He is literally the fry cook that poops on the burgers in this scenario. He intentionally goes out of his way to fuck over the people he works for and is doing his job in the most counter-productive way possible.....

Well DUH

also

he has been pushed out there
of course he hasn't been hyped as much as Conor but no one has in the ufc except a few

If you do your best at work, set records, and don't make your boss any money, your boss will do more than go "meh." He'll fire your ass.

That's not applicable here. This is the fight game and the UFC still sticks with the PPV model. If the UFC has a stacked card and people don't buy it, then that's on the UFC and not the fault of fighters on the card.

Doesn't matter who it's "on." Fighters get paid money out of the money that comes in. Less comes in. Less pay.

Dana needs to be fired. He's the only promoter or equivalent of a commissioner of a sport that takes crap so personal and just pops off at the mouth.

Adam Silver doesn't do this in the NBA. Roger Goodell, although a crappy commissioner, doesn't do this...and he seriously dislikes Tom Brady enough to do so if he wanted to.

You have clearly never listened to one of Don Kings tirades and that guy routinely robs his fighters blind, has fighters from his own stable fight each other while he decides the monetary terms... and oh yeah he murdered someone....

It's alarming that dana is trying to turn a legit sport into a middle school popularity contest.

These TMZ interviews should never ever happen. WME needs to stop Dana from doing them. TMZ is only interested in slander, strife and discontent. You never hear of a feel good story coming out of those scumbags.

That is literally untrue. The UFC did terrible PPV numbers for years and didn't really start making good numbers til the UFC 70's IIRC

Dana sounds like 90% of sherdog now.

Selfish Dana trying stay personally relevant with TMZ interviews is bad for the UFC and WME. They have nothing gain from this whatsoever imho.

Im usually on the fighter's side and hate on Dana but fuck DJ in this case.

I don't understand this board sometimes

Like everyone wants to go to bat for DJ because its Dana talking shit about him, but a day before you have everyone ragging on DJ for the exact reasons Dana is saying

He's right too, DJ is boring, and his PPVs don't sell. It's 100% on DJ, the UFC can't make you likable no matter how much you bitch, which, by the way, is not helping your cause

But I feel like this has all been said before, this has essentially been DJs entire reign at the top of his division, him bitching about how nobody likes him

That is because feel good stories don't sell, ironically. Slander, strife, and discontent "moves the needle".

Fan of Mighty Mouse. But he does have some shit numbers. That's why we want to see him against legit contenders that would give him a run for his money.

Dana is an unprofessional dick, but DJ did this to himself.
The guy does nothing but whine about money and respect, but is ducking pretty much the only red panty night he'll ever have in his division.

This fight isn't a money fight. What are dillishaw's ppv number

TJ is easily DJ's most legitimate opponent and this is easily the most marketable fight of DJ's career.
TJ vs. Cruz saw the second highest UFC audience on FS1 (>2M, during the NFL playoffs).
It doesn't have to reach Conor, Brock, or GSP numbers to be a red panty night for DJ. It all relative.

You're wrong.

Fighters get paid by contract. If a fighter's contract says $100K per bout and the PPV makes $20K, someone has to come up with that $80K. If the promoter can't pay, then it's "_uck you, pay me!"

Ugh. Of course. Same for every business.

Don't be obtuse and then try to pass it off as having insight.

But the contract is based on past performance. No point complaining you don't get paid enough if:

a. You signed the contract.

And...

b. You're already making more than you're worth to the company.

Also, not sure if you've noticed, but promoters sometimes give fighters an unconditional release rather than bother booking yet another fight that loses money.

A fight against Tj could give Dj his biggest audience yet. And who knows, maybe a rematch or trilogy. At this point in his career, there's more to gain than loose by taking this fight. Hell, if he beats Tj decisively, it would be an exclamation point on his career.

The irony is that he is the media and is bringing down DJs fight stock with every interview he does...

This shit is hilarious and in the same interview he rose Conor's stock lol

Does he not realise that he is the face of UFC and is the marketing behind all these fighters?
