True story. When a poet or a dancer would produce a particularly great performance in the desert, the crowd would catch the equivalent of the 'holy ghost' and start shouting 'allah allah allah'. It entered into the Spanish lexicon through centuries of Islamic rule in Southern Spain, Andalucia, or 'Al-andalus' Arabic for land of the vandals.
