A very controversial figure but undoubtedly one of the most purely talented fighters ever.and who managed to capture world titles in two divisions before it became more common. A fearless warrior who competed from 155 all the way up to heavyweight and who pulled off the biggest upset in mma history at the time when he moved up and beat Matt Hughes.

What I’d be super interested to know is how much his fall from grace at the end of his career plays into ppl’s minds consciously or subconsciously when ranking him all time
It shouldn't but it does. No matter how great you were in your prime, having a 16-14 record is going to make a lot of people think twice about Calling you an atg.

I think being one of the greatest in a specific weight class is enough to keep a record that bad on paper from bringing you down 100 spots or something

In terms of strength of fighters faced maybe.

In terms of his record, strength of opponents in title defences, win rate in big fights - hell no.

Do Bronx and maybe even Edgar are ahead of him imo.

You mean at LW or overall?
Either way, they aren't. BJ has way more top ranked wins at LW.

If we value that BJ also moved up and finished all-time great WW Hughes and went to close decisions with GOAT WW GSP and perennial contender Fitch despite being in big size dissadvantage. Then it's not even a debate.

Do you mean just LW? yes sure. Its not very clear if you mean just LW or you mean every division overall ? . But probably not top 10 if you include every division.

LW he's top 5 forever.

His slide was not only difficult to watch, it damaged his legacy to the point where top 10 isn't realistic... Only PositiveBalance would say too 10 at this stage...

Plenty of pundits and fans have him top10.
Even FitghtMatrix does:

About his late career slide...only in sherdog somehow erases what he did during his prime.
In no sport such retarded logic is apploed.
Sugar Ray Robinson is widely considered the GOAT boxer despite his late career losses.
And nobody downplays what Michaej Jordan did with the Bulls based on how he looked in Wizards.

Does he thought? Name BJ’s ranked wins at LW and you’ll see that he has less ranked LW wins than Do Bronx

nope. negatory. It's the losses early on that tend to negate his good wins... not the late career loses.
