Everybody counting Max out but...

Nice video for sure. But, Edgar isn't as big as Khabib, nor nearly as physical in the clinch. Strength and physicality takes you a long way in any clinch and one can only assume Khabib is a beast in the clinch because of his background in sambo/judo because of the leverage you must get in each sport to successfully throw.

He will fight on essentially a 2-3 day training camp becauae media obligations. Are you serious?

Edgar, Mendes, Faber, Lamas, etc. Aldo has fought some of the best wrestlers in mma. His TDD is way more proven than any other potential fight for Khabib.

Max is injured, that's why everybody is counting him out.

He's far from 100%. He said a few days ago (before Tony pulled out) he wants to wait until summer, and possibly needs a surgery on his ankle in mid-april.

I think we're downplaying some of the advantages Max will have. It's extremely hard to focus on one guy for an entire training camp, only to have it switched at the last minute. All the pressure and expectation will be on Khabib, and Max will be fighting with the mentality that he has nothing to lose. When you are fighting that free and loose, you become an extremely dangerous opponent.

There is a reason why Greg Jackson always tells his fighters pull out of these short notice flights. Have we seen any dominant performances in these circumstances?? Maybe there's some, but there's also Jon Jones-OSP, Cormier-Silva. Rockhold-Bisping, Conor-Nate Diaz.

Max is a beast and has a great chance.

Might be under sized and out powered big time

Because styles make fights and MMAMath is fundamentally flawed. Aldo has legendary TDD and scrambling ability + Really good striking on the feet. He could have proved to be a real test for Khabib.

Oh, I agree.

But that's not really the question at hand. The question at hand is why so many people count Max out and not Aldo, and the answer is that there are far more people who think Aldo has a chance at avoiding the takedown than there are who believe that Max can avoid the takedown. That's a well reasoned opinion, even if in practice it turned out that neither guy could avoid the takedown.

Aldo would die fighting Khabib.

Maxx gonna die too.

Aldo's only losses are to superior strikers. He still has some of the best TDD in UFC history and is a thick FW.

No one dies fighting Khabib, they just get roughed up a bit. You guys act like he's out here ending careers or shit

Styles make fights. Aldo has the best TDD defense in MMA history, with the exception of maybe Prime BJ Penn or GSP, so that's what made the Khabib fight interesting.
I love Penn but Aldo definitely has better TDD, just look at who could stop Edgar's takedowns and who couldn't.

You can't tell me Penn was out of his prime against Edgar when just a year before he was demolishing Florian and Sanchez.

True but Edgar sets up his takedowns far better than Khabib who basically just charges forward. Aldo has good counters and footwork, its conceivable that he could stop the takedown by just keeping Khabib off of him with his boxing on the feet.

Max is going to get ragdolled. AND NEW!

If it was a five round fight and Khabib could pressure Aldo into gassing late he could probably hurt him real bad. Hominick could survive and get Aldo down and tired in the 5th, if Khabib ever got him in that position it'd be a mauling.

I know the Hominick fight was a while ago but its not like Aldo's gas tank has improved noticeably(he gassed twice in the third against Max), he's just been able to get away with it most of the time by controlling the pace of the fight. If he can against Khabib he could win but if not and he gasses then Khabib rips him apart.

Fair point w the Edgar comparison. But they have different attributes. Aldo is much more quicker on his feet and turned his hips stronger and faster than anyone. Where as BJ was slower (which is why Edgar could get to him) but he was very strong, flexible and had amazing balance.

Aldo could stop Edgar’s takedowns. But would he have been able to stop as many of Prime Hughes and GSPs takedown attempts as BJ did? Who knows.

And what about Khabib's gas tank? Dude has never even gone 5 rounds

Well said.

His gas tank is a bit of a question mark but we pretty much know Aldo's is limited. But good point on him never going five rounds, if someone like Aldo could control the stand up and keep him off him and get him to waste energy on failed takedown attempts maybe Khabib gasses later in the fight.

Not long ago, Aldo wanted to move up and fight Khabib. And a lot of people thought, and probably still think he has a chance against Khabib. Max smashed Aldo twice, but i bet these same people think Max has no chance.
