Fedor was great at some aspects of MMA but not the others. The OP and this reply are both correct. What that comes down to is well roundness.Yeah, I don’t recall Jones or GSP pulling moves like this off.
What makes Jones and GSP (and MM) to stand out from others is how well they do against all kinds of opponents. No aspect of MMA gives them trouble. And even if they are not great at something, they never put themselves in a situation where that is going to be a problem.
The vast majority of Fedor's subs is that type of armbar. CroCop was able to KO every second opponent with a left high kick. Nog was able to sub almost anyone while not having a great grappling competition record like Werdum or Jacare. This is a common theme about PRIDE. Fighters were good but they were not nearly as well rounded as modern fighters. The training camps were not the same. But you can be a specialist who is successful. Someone like Ronda or Royce (extreme examples) still had a great record. But such specialists are always getting figured out sooner or later unlike fighters such as GSP or Jones.
I also do not see GSP or Jones throwing wild hooks just because they are faster than the opponents. They set up strikes with grappling and timing.
