He was saying that because he realized he fucked up and was trying to talk his way out of it to people who couldn't understand what he was saying.
That said, being uncomfortable with a man doing something like that to you doesn't make you a homophobe.

Context is everything. If a gay dude hits on you and you crack his chin then proceed to repeatedly deny that you're gay, you're going to look like a raging homophobe.

I'm going to assume that you know it's not homophobic to say "I'm not gay" in isolation.

I will also assume that you believe saying that after another man kissed you without consent and you cracking him in the jaw isn't homophobic.
