They came out as like house on fire. Appetite for Destruction is probably their best album and what a killer album it was.

You got one of the most intriguing voices in music with Axl Rose. I believe he has one of the greatest vocal ranges, let me know if that's true. In his prime of course.

But they have several great memorable hit songs.

Appetite was great. I really wish Chinese Democracy had never seen the light of day though. Voted good overall.

9.

Appetite was 10/10. Lies and the Illusions were 8.5 / 10. They have plenty of good songs that were never released as singles.

The light that burns twice as bright burns half as long. Four good albums and kaput. They Highlander 2'd themselves with The Spaghetti Incident.

Intriguing is the right word. He kind of has three voices like Prince. The way Prince has the distinctive low and falsetto voices in Kiss and then his medium range in When Doves Cry or Purple Rain.

Axl is kind of the same way. The low one (Mr. Brownstone), the screech (Sweet Child) and then the middle one (You Could Be Mine).

At their best - they were in contention to be one of the absolute greatest bands ever formed. At their worst - they were bad.

A lot of the institutional voices of the 80's and 90's ( MTV, Rolling Stone, Spin, Kerrang etc.) are gone and Guns doesn't carry the baggage of all that negative press. Traditionally, their reputation is skewered because of Axl's figurative bloat and behaviour.

Though their catalogue is somewhat uneven, the highs are monstrous. Amazing considering the original patch of material was created in a small window of time ('85-'91)

Dirt is an amazing album. Rain when I die, them bones, rooster, down in a hole, angry chair, and more, what a line up of tracks.

Nirvana is tolerable, but the other big bands from Seattle are like softcore porn compared to Alice in Chains. You probably like Megadeth too. I may be in the minority but I appreciate Dave Mustaine.

Rose has a 5 octave range. Plenty of those around. Mike Patton has a bit higher range than Rose. Dimash Kudeibergen has a 6 octave range.

Then there is Tim Storms

According to the Guinness World Records, Tim Storms of Missouri, USA holds the record for not just the widest vocal range but also the lowest note produced by a human.

Storms’ vocal range not only extends an incredible ten octaves but he can also produce a low G-7 at 0.189Hz. This note is so low that not only is it lower than seven octaves from a standard piano note but it is also infrasonic and cannot be heard by the human ear. His vocal range extends from G/G#-5 to G/G#5.

Comparing Axl to Prince.

Appetite is one of the greatest albums of all time. There is SO much going on in almost every second of every song, it's unreal. The craftsmanship is unimpeachable. That album alone warrants them being ranked Amon the all time greats.
UYI could have been one incredible album instead of two bloated ones. Imagine if all the best songs from those two albums were on one? Then you potentially have two of the greatest albums of all time.
