Howcome Americans like NFL but not rugby?

If it were more televised here, I'd give it a chance.

I can't believe that you would use video of Earl Campbell in comparison with rugby. There is a statute of Earl near one of my close family member's office at the University of Texas - Austin. Earl didn't just run over linebackers, he ran over Bevo the Longhorn mascot - a real Longhorn steer. There has never been a rugby player in the class of Earl Campbell. LOL. Be serious. Ok, rugby is a real sport but stop the madness.

I can only hope that you're joking here lad?

Especially themselves lol. Is there evidence they have actually injured anyone or ever tackled anyone without padding?
Perhaps you can look up video of Joe Theismann's leg, while wearing padding.

Joe Theismann got blindsided with his leg planted, a hit that has literally nothing to do with the padding.

Do you remember Earl Campbell? I do.

I don't remember him, I wasn't alive. But I have seen a lot of footage. Earl Campbell is my kind of player, his A Football Life is great.

Do you remember Jonah Lomu? Or have you seen much footage? I do not think so. The Dallas Cowboys tried to sign him (in the 90s) despite the fact that he'd never gone near a gridiron field in his life. But obviously he turned them down to represent the all blacks.... (and rightfully so)

They'd be gasping for breath and sucking oxygen on the side-lines:

They are athletes built and specialised for a completely different sort of game.

And lmao you think we don't have hard hitters in rugby too? (both codes).

Any 275lb athelete would be gasping for air after sprinting 100 yds in 15lbs of pads during the most high stress game (The Super Bowl) you ass-hat.

You clearly know not of James Harrisson.

He would maul every Rugby :eek::eek: in the world. Even now that he is retired.

Lad you are a complete ignoramus. Don't know a fucking thing about rugby yet presume to talk about it.

I know very well who james harrison is, hence how I was able to make the gif.......

Well, we'll get an indication as to how well some rugby guys can do in NFL as Christian Wade is going to try (!) out for various teams after training in American Football for a while.

He's about 5ft8 and 13 and a half stone. Plays as a winger in rugby . He's fast and has quick feet , changing direction rapidly.
Possibly too small as a wide receiver but maybe as a kick return specialist ?

Wingers aren’t footballers. They just hang around with them.

I don't think its gonna work, its just not feasible to swap at that kind of age.

This is why I always say they would have needed to grow up playing. If he had then he could have certainly made the NFL.

Valentine Holmes is swapping from the NRL too, now that is definitely not gonna work. He's not even that fast.

Google it.

You're forgetting that every four years the World Cup basically acts like an enrollment drive for people to take up soccer.

The number who takes soccer seriously is astronomically higher than the number of people who take rugby seriously in the United States. The number of people who have ever played soccer in any organized fashion is astronomically higher than the same number of people for the sport of rugby.

Soccer is very accessible to both sexes rugby is barely accessible to women.

Soccer is growing in the US and continuing to do so rugby, will never catch it.

Rugbys popularity isn't catching up to and will never catch that of Soccer in the United States.

I only see articles about how much more popular soccer is compared to what it used to be. Anyone who would attempt to make it seem like a rugby is somehow becoming more popular than soccer or outgrowing soccer is playing up on the cheap technicality that there were far fewer rugby fans and players in the past meaning any growth experienced would be "more" relative to other sports that already have a well-established fan and participant base.

Are you that stubborn that you can't Google it for fear of being wrong? Rugby is growing from very small numbers compared to soccer, hence it has been the fastest growing sport in the US over the past few years.

Holmes isn't good enough to make it. It's a bad move for him.

Yeah, very bad move.

He's a quality finisher, and has some decent footwork, but athletically he's not all that and considering he will lack the skills required (obviously, having never played the sport) I think his chances are extremely slim.

Holmes is quick enough and has good enough footwork imo. His size will let him down I think. He’s a better athlete than what Hayne was when he had a crack and is far more disciplined too.

I think he is average height for a wide receiver, but a fair bit thinner. And I disagree that he is a better athlete than Hayne. Holmes did something like a 4.6 in his 40 yard, Hayne was more like 4.5. I just think prime Hayne looked a lot more electric than Holmes, and with a better build. Of course if Holmes trains specifically for the 40 yard stuff like the NFL prospects do then I am sure he could do better, especially if he bulks up and focuses on short bursts rather than rugby stamina. But there are much more athletic rugby players, and certainly more athletic NFL players. Hayne certainly did not look out of place athletically imo. It wasn't a shortage of athletic ability that stopped him, it was a lack of familiarity with the game that made him a worse option than other athletes that had trained all their life for the sport. You would have to be something pretty spectacular athletically to be a better than option that those who have been honing their skills their entire lives. Same for an america if they tried to play rugby.

Clearly you don't.

Don't try to save face now.

Show me an athlete with his build max sprinting for 100+yds and not being winded.

Shit a 55 year old Herschel Walker would beat the dog shit out of most rugby players now.
