I have a bad feeling Chael will outsmart Fedor

It won't be an easy thing for Chael - To take Fedor down. I don't see it happening readlly. I feel like Chael will get desperate trying to take him down and will get knocked out in the proccess.

Edit:
But this is a fight and anything can happen of course. I just want them both to showcase their skills really and may the best man win.

Realistically anything can happen. It’s not a gimme fight for either one. I hate the possibility of winning by wrestlefucking someone as this sport should be about damage and not just control but this is the state of the sport.

It will all come down to Fedors defensive wrestling. Sprawl and brawl.
Fedor getting out grappled by a mw isn't happening if he does it's for 20seconds then fedor ruins him

Greco master hendo showed his wrestling vs fedor and it worked
Sonnen double leg won't work

This isn’t 2003 Fedor.

Any fight he’s in these days is pretty much a coin toss.
Yeah but he's facing a smaller pillow hand striker ?
Sonnen won't out grapple fedor. Soon as he clincheS he goes flying ala mir

Chael is just too small for Fedor. Even being chinny Fedor still has great throws and grappling.

Yes, I agree TS

Just had the feeling that wrestle-only Chael can get the better of Fedor with a smart gameplan, non-stop cardio attack and smart cage tactics. If Chael gets through the first round I think the probability shifts towards Chael and he'll take rounds 2 and 3, particularly if he is successful in round 1

The longer the fight goes, the better it is for Chael in this one. Expect Fedor to roll the dice and try to get him out of there quickly, and the result of the fight will be how well Fedor does in doing that

Man I definitely hope so! I’m staying optimistic but not investing myself emotionally so much as I did in the past knowing that in the present day and with these rules that benefit wrestlers, any outcome is possible.

What I would love to see though is a thorough domination by Fedor where he showcases many skill sets.

Why are people commenting that Fedor is bigger and stronger than Sonnen? Sonnen is listed as an inch taller than Fedor, and with this being heavyweight who knows what weight Chael will come in at, or how strong he will be. I've seen pictures of them together where Sonnen looks to be the bigger of the two.

1. Fedor isnt much bigger than Sonnen if at all like morons in this thread are suggesting

2. Even if Fedor was bigger, I dont think it would help him much in the grappling department. If you have trained you understand. Sonnens wrestling is more important than his size disparity.

3. Fedor is 13 years past his prime and his chin is probably 75% deteriorated from what it was in his prime. He has been floored by punches in his last 3 fights. Its not silly to think Sonnen, a 200lb athlete on steroids would be able to at least hurt Fedor.

I think Fedor can win this fight if hes sharp and prepared to wrestle, scramble and avoid sneaky submissions. Sonnen is the kind of guy you don't want to be reckless against. This is a match up which could really make Fedor pay for his sloppiness so I hope hes sharp.

I think if Fedor doesnt rush things and makes it out of the first 3 minutes, Sonnen will gas and get more and more discouraged and will turn over to his side in fetal position like he always does when things dont go his way, waiting for the ref to come in and save him.

Hopefully, Fedor comes in sharp and gets the TKO but I don't think it will be easy. Lots of fools still acting like its still 2005.

Everybody here believes Chael stands no chance against Fedor. At first this was what I thought too.

In reality, Chael has a very solid chance to outsmart Fedor and to neutralize him by lay and parying him for 3 rounds. I don't see Fedor pulling a submission off of his back - firstly, because this is not the Fedor of old, and secondly, because Fedor will be fighting a guy whose bread and butter is taking and holding people down.

Chael is not retarded and will totally refuse to stand and bang with Fedor. He will be shooting takedown after takedown, just like he did with dangerous strikers like Silva, Rampage and the others. I see him taking down Fedor with ease and then holding him down for whole eternity.
Would not be surprised if Chael Sonnen wins by boring, but important UD.

What do you people say? Will Sonnen get KTFO-ed by Fedor or will he pull a sneaky lay-and-pray based game plan to outsmart The Last Emperor?
God will only allow a draw for his two favorite angels.

Fedors only chance is to win by KO.
Basically he does have a punchers chance, however unlikely. Its not 100% a given thay Chael will walk through Fedor.

Fedor is a shell of a shell of his former self. He will likely lose because, as shitty as Sonnen is, he’s still a lot closer to his prime than Fedor.

People are way to excited about his win over Mir. It’s giving them false confidence. I hate seeing great fighters fight this far past their prime.

An interesting fact: Chael's 4-1 against Pride stars, which includes a four-fight winning streak and avenging the loss. Paulo Filho, Wanderlei Silva, Rampage Jackson, Shogun Rua, all guys who either won or made it to the finals of a Pride Grand Prix. That's a promising precedent for the Fedor fight. Has anyone else in the sport's history had a better run against Pride Grand Prix finalists?

Anderson wasn't a Pride star, by the way. You'd might as well call Amar Suloev a Pride star; beating Bustamante's better than anything Anderson did in Pride.
