Nailed it on all fronts. I'm with you, but the (accurate imo) take that 10-second flash-KOs are not the ultimate proof of performance or ability, and give us very little to gauge whether or not they could repeat the feat . . . will never be popular.Something longer than a few seconds. I mean, it was a good shot but it can happen to anybody. It's no more impressive than what Jorge did to Askren. Not that it's not impressive, I just don't consider it a "performance" that proves a whole hell of lot. One guy just made a very early mistake. If they fight a hundred times, it doesn't go down like that very often.
You brought up Jones. I'd say he has some of the most impressive performances of dominance and picking apart an opponent. Machida, Shogun, Cormier. Anderson Silva clowning Forrest Griffin and Rich Franklin are up there too.
It's certainly one of the most legendary moments, but performance wise his win against Eddie was better.
Aldo didn’t make a mistake, he got in an exchange with the superior boxer and got knocked out in 10 seconds. That result likely happens 9 out of 10 times, either way Aldo would’ve got countered and caught early
Aldo fans always get triggered when you say Conor is more skilled than Aldo at anything. Sure Aldo has better leg kicks but Conor has better boxing. Acting like no one seen Aldo get countered and put to sleep with ease. Conor is the best boxer in mma history that didn’t come from boxing like Toney.
Probably would have been better for Shoguns long term health to get kod by that first knee but nope .Cain over Lesnar
Honorable mention - The Reem over Lesnar (but not a title fight)
GSP over Jon Fitch
Jones over Shogun
BJ over Hughes
Holly over Ronda
All of these are title fights that were completely one sided beatdowns against good or at least scary fighters. Complete, one-sided dominations. I think these are better examples of legendary performances. McGregor Aldo was just too quick. You didn't get to see McGregor outstrike Aldo 200-20, or take him down at will, or laugh at his leg kicks or anything at all other than one single exchange.
Not a fluke. Just a massive moment in a massive fight. Conor just got there first. We were inches away from a double ko.Has any morons shown up yet claiming a perfect slip and counter was a fluke yet? The counter he was literally drilling while warming up right before walking out?
Aldo also landed on Conor.Has any morons shown up yet claiming a perfect slip and counter was a fluke yet? The counter he was literally drilling while warming up right before walking out?
Greater than Silva matrixing Forrest because obviously Aldo was a legitimate GOAT candidate, and a striking specialist.
Greater than Jones vs Shogun I think, because of all the mental game that broke Aldo
Was there a better fight preparation and result than this one? From a fighter's perspective, being able to get into one of the greatest of all time fighter's head, then ko'ing him in 13 seconds.. This has to be the perfect execution of a gameplan. Injury free and famous for it for the rest of his days
