I liked the idea of Gaethje/Khabib fight before he ran through Cerrone so did a lot of sherdoggers. It is funny though how he finishes cowboy and the next day you see all these major media outlets calling Gaethje Khabib's kryptonite and how his hype went past Ferguson for awhile. It's settling down now though some.

Gaethje really did change it up after his two losses and the way he handled Barboza was impressive. It's hard not to be a Gaethje fan. He should be doing as much media as he can. If Khabib and Ferguson gets booked and Khabib wins. Khabib will want GSP. If he still doesn't have enough leverage to get Dana to make that fight Gaethje would be the right fight to make IMO. He who shall not be named still has time to fight one single fight against almost anyone and if he wins with style points Dana may allow him to pass by Gaethje for the big money rematch. He who shall not be named missed out on a golden ticket when he didn't fight Cowboy before Cowboy fought Ferguson.

It's all interesting because Khabib likely retires if he gets to 30-0 but maybe he take three more fights(It would be cool for him stick around even longer but I think Khabib if he wins out to 30-0 would probably only take the GSP fight.)

There is a reason why Khabib kills himself to get to LW. There are absolutely no wrestlers which is why people get excited when a sub par wrestler like Gaethje moves up the ranks. Gaethje has never had a takedown threat in the UFC and with all the fights Khabib has had he's never fought someone who has good wrestling. If he were to move up there wouldn't be the issue of hoping a college wrestler could make it high enough to give him struggles. Usman, Woodley, Covington, and Askren would all be interesting fights but he's going to retire facing strikers.

The only hope IMO is GSP fighting him but the dude if freak 100 at this point.

I think Gaethje believes he has a genuine chance because he feels has improved massively after those losses to Poirier and Alvarez(that was embarassing) with his wins in less than combined 5 minutes over Cowboy, Barboza and James Vick.
That said, seen a bit of Gaethje footage in defending takedowns. Guy is going to get taken down by Khabib without a doubt and kept there. I do like Justin, but Khabib absolutely murders him.

D1 All-American is a sub-par wrestler? There are as many elite wrestlers at LW as there are at WW: Khabib, Islam, Justin (at least on paper), Gregor vs Colby, Tyron, Askren and Usman (who isn't even elite on paper, funnily enough). The narrative that LW is starved for elite wrestlers is false.

Yep. Its what people in this thread cant comprehend. That there are levels to this shit. Just because Khabib will probably sub him doesn't mean he isn't competent. History has shown us he hasn't been subbed by better grapplers than himself. History also shows that Khabib doesn't have trading wars like Justin and Dustin/Eddie. Khabib is way too smart to go to a place someone has a chance.
