Kayla vs Holm

Anyone know why holly is such a huge underdog? I understand they expect steroid kayla to take her down and dominate her but her striking is horrible. She has no idea how to take a shot, i'd argue the difference in striking between the two is bigger then the difference in grappling between the two. If kayla cant take her down , holly wins fairly easily. WHY ARE THE ODDS LIKE THIS? i UNDERSTAND holly is 42 but this is martial arts and the striking isnt even close lol.

I think it will be something similar to when Holly fought that big Aussie girl, I can't remember her name. She's gonna cruise to a 30-27.

The odds seem kind of wild.. Holly is the much better striker and has good tdd, and Kayla's cut couldn't have been easy. Is this going to be a replay of Holly vs Rousey?

Holly is so old and frail …. If she still had any knockout power at all , she’d be worth a dog shot at her current odds .

But she has no power …. She won’t win …
She never had any, her 2 KO wins in the UFC were headkicks.

I do worry about Holly's age.

There are folks in Arkansas and Lousanna who have several grandchildren at her age :)

But I still like Holly and am rooting for her.

Georgia too my guy.

Kayla by sub not sure which round, wouldn't be surprised if Holly gets overwhelmed dagi style tho she looks withered.

I think you made a wise bet on Holly.

The odds are a bit ridiculous in my opinion. Kayla has beaten absolutely no one and just lost to a girl who was 0-2 in the UFC, stopped in both. (GDR and Andrade, so decent opponents.)

Holly on the other hand is a consumate professional, always shows up in shape, is well acclimated to the UFC, the pressure and media and Bantamweight.

I thought Kayla looked badly sucked out at the weigh ins. Her eyes looked like Conor at 145, you could see the shape of her skull and facial bones.

Age is the only thing that makes this interesting to me. Holly is a big strong girl and battle tested I doubt Kayla can stop her or have enough gas at 136 pounds to go 3 hard rounds and when she is too tired to get a takedown her striking is going to be badly badly outmatched imo.

We will see, but I think the odds at Kayla -450 are a bit off.
Pacheco was like 19 when she was in the UFC and had those losses. Kayla also had beat her twice before but that girl is currently riding a 10 fight winning streak. I don't know much about her but it looks like she's a better fighter now than she used to be.

And as I mentioned those were very respectable losses to women who held titles.

But the point stands that Holly has been competitive against the most elite wmma fighters in the world for the last decade while Kayla has faced extremely extremely weak competition.

That's reasonable. It's a hard fight to pick for me because of Holly's age honestly. Lots of miles on that tank. She's been competing since 2002.

its tough to call. 5 rounds i would favor holly.

3 rounds kayla might have enough gas to hold her down and get the W

kayla really isn't that good though. she looked like trash on her last PFL fight when she lost the title to a nobody

Holly's age is the only thing making this an interesting fight.

This is basically a battle tested elite pro vs an amateur.
A promising-ish amateur, but an amateur.

Holly has more combat sports title fights than Kayla has pro fights.

It would be hard to overstate how absolute trash women's 155 mma is.
There is probably more athletic talent at your average YMCA pick up basketball game.

It will be fun. We will know who wins within the first 2 takedown exchanges. If Kayla can't take Holm down then it's a long night for her. Kayla isn't the type to be sneaky and try to setup the takedown. She is just going to go for it.

Very few things I hate. But women’s sports is up there. ( thank god I only have some )

A match up like this is difficult. Both extremely unattractive.
I don’t like red heads. And Kayla is built like a jr high nose guard.

I'm excited to see this fight. I'm pulling for Kayla all the way. To me, the X factors are Kayla's cut and Holly's age: their skills will be distant third to these two factors.

Pretty sure you're exaggerating, but you might actually be correct lmao.

Agree odds would be reversed if this were prime 33 yo Holly vs. current Kayla. But have to disagree on relative combat sports experience. You can't compare Holly's women's boxing world title matches in Indian casinos to Harrison's 9 years competing in Judo on the world stage. Judo is at least as popular as wrestling worldwide and she did two Olympic cycles - even won two matches by sub enroute to her second gold at the 2016 Olympics.

And while her PFL comp has been somewhere between dishwater and bald YMCA guy in a knee brace, she's still had 17 pro MMA fights, while training out of ATT since 2018.

Kayla's pedigree to date is kind of like Henry Cejudo's before he started fighting elite comp in Benavidez and DJ. Cejudo also did two Olympic cycles (but failed to qualify in his second trials) and both went into MMA shortly after. And like Kayla, Cejudo spent his early MMA career phoning it in before committing to his proper weight class.

The problem with Holly: She has no power.

If she's not evasive enough and if her TDD isn't on point, she will end on her ass very soon in that fight. I doubt her "sshhs sshhs" will be enough to stop that freight train from closing the distance
