International Milei's Neoliberal "Shock Therapy" is Devastating Argentina

Not to break your Biden bad knee-jerk reaction but inflation is the job of the Fed, not the president.

I think it kind of had more to do with all the money printing done by the Fed in 2020, especially since inflation is not immediate, it takes around 6-9 months to materialize, according to Milton Friedman at least.
The brief period of high inflation was a result of the pandemic and the recovery. Supply was temporarily restricted while demand was lifted first by the rescue packages and then by the boom that followed. To the extent that you give Biden credit for the incredibly fast recovery, you can also blame him for the inflation, but both were a mix of good policy and lingering impacts from the pandemic. What's annoying about these discussions is that hacks shift their perspective on it to maintain partisan narratives, even though it doesn't make any sense.

Yeah I read about him initially making them promises about their pay (and othe expansions/updating), which experts said were impossible because the money to expand just isnt there. However, cutting Military pay after forcing leadership to retire is another maneuver that allows the upper ranks to be filled with idealogs instead of those most qualified (who want better pay). I mean, from your own article:

"In the Army, they see with discomfort that the privatizations that Milei wants to implement in companies of the Forces have already begun to attract the attention of senior commanders who, as in the nineties, see the possibility of making juicy personal businesses . "In high leadership they know with whom they get what," the source acknowledged."

And later:

"It was cut lower than what should have been cut, leading managers who were in the middle of their careers to retire and that is delicate because now they are appointing people with no experience," explained the source consulted."

Sounds a lot like "draining the swamp"...which translated into "fill the positions with more agreeable personnel."

The article points out that they are trying to privatize a military company to give it to a civilian rich guy, that does sounds like the direct opposite of what you need to get the army on board with you.

The one thing I’ve learnt is that conservatives are happy to let their countries burn as long as they can own the “woke” whatever the fuck that means.

I’m guessing they rather have the ability to abuse people than eat.

Ok, im sorry then, shouldn't had interjected in your conversation.

No worries...

Dude has been shitting out garbage since the OP.

I should know better than to engage.

Your income has not increased since 2021?

Should I repeat the question? Or spell it out more slowly for you?

"Donald Trump eats babies for lunch"

"I don't think that's true"

"What are you? are Trump supporter or something?"

Just because I'm disagreeing with your falsehoods that doesn't makes me a supporter.

Bro - in a thread where the source of the OP is foreign policy, a highly respected magazine, you responded to me with a fucking tweet as your source.

When I called you out on it, you were too embarrassed to even reply. Lmaooo.

Do you have any other breaking news from "reaganite republican"? Maybe "based stick man groyper " on twitter has some hot takes you wanna share in here??

WTF? Inflation was 1.4% when Biden took office, and was 9.1% after a year and a half of "Bidenomics", and gas went from $2.40 to over $5/gallon in the same time.

The only reason gas was cheap just before Biden took office is because the pandemic crashed the demand for oil. Once the world economy got into gear again prices went up. So to compare the 2020 gas prices to 2021 and later is misleading.

The current national average for regular unleaded is $3.64.

I compared because he specifically said "day 1 of Biden's presidency".

You're certainly free to compare it to any other time before covid, because the price was pretty consistent the whole time. The price right before Biden took office is the same price it was for the 3 years before covid.

"it will be different this time!!"

Hey, at least you ghouls didn't have to do a coup and install a fascist dictator to make your neoliberal wet dreams happen this time! That's an improvement I'd say!
You use Pinochet's picture but the fact is that Chile's economy is doing great compared to Argentina.
Brazil was also able to fix hyperinflation in 1994 with a neoliberal reform. Albeit there wasn't some crazy guy with a chainsaw saying he would end the central bank.
In fact, the whole plan involved a stronger, independent central bank.
The IMF recommendations were called neoliberal at the time and it seems Milei is talking with the IMF.
Be it as it may, Argentina had to change how things were run.

Lol

Average gas prices in 2019 was $2.50

I have a degree in history that is absolute horse shit. If you want to say this in 1945. Okay fine. But to say it in 2024 requires a special brand of obliviousness. Not even just capitalism throw that aside for a second look at the fucking architecture look at the urban planning, look at the degenerate culture just jfc its a dystopias dystopia. This periods only redeeming quality is the internet. And the internet you can't miss if you never had. And that applies to all the "hey you're fucking screwed but you have a microwave which Roman Emperors didn't have so you're better off then they are" sort of arguments. Gaslighting is the worlds biggest driver of carbon emissions.

This arrogance is a big part of why capitalism is so evil. You see angry people and instead of trying to reform to survive you keep spouting bullshit about how wonderful the system it is as said system is literally in the process of ending the world. Like I think Socialism and Communism is the worlds only hope of surviving "humanitys greatest invention" but it isn't perfect and can obviously be perfected instead of focusing on 19th century theory. But no y'all are so fucking high on your own supply of BS you honestly expect the world to ignore their own material conditions because you tell them the systems working wonderfuly and they are just emotional extremists who aren't being objective because they can't see the beauty in the flames burning around them.

How did you get your degree without ever having a job or leaving your moms basement? Serious question.

I obviously moved out for school like most people do. So no its not a serious question. Education and serfdom are not fully linked. I've also had quite a few political jobs where I usually did not get paid. But yes continue the fascist dog whistling.

Fascism is inquiring about how someone who has never worked and sponges off their parents got their degree? Interesting.
