Harrison-Ford-051514-Dragonlord.jpg

Press Release: Warner Bros-based Alcon Entertainment (Prisoners, The Book of Eli) has an offer out to Harrison Ford to reprise his celebrated role of Rick Deckard in its Ridley Scott-directed sequel to Blade Runner, it was announced by Alcon co-founders and co-CEO’s Andrew Kosove and Broderick Johnson.

Hampton Fancher (co-writer of the 1982 adaptation) and Michael Green are the screenwriters. While the story is being kept under wraps, it takes place several decades after the conclusion of the 1982 original.

State Johnson and Kosove: “We believe that Hampton Fancher and Michael Green have crafted with Ridley Scott an extraordinary sequel to one of the greatest films of all time. We would be honored, and we are hopeful, that Harrison will be part of our project.”

Among its many distinctions, Blade Runner has been singled out as one of the greatest movies of all time by innumerable polls and media outlets, and overwhelmingly as the greatest science-fiction film of all time by a majority of genre publications.

Hugh Jackman is playing Blackbeard and Garrett Hedlund will take on the role of Hook in the film, which will tell the tale of a young orphan boy from London who is spirited away to the magical Neverland. There, he faces off against Blackbeard, the story's main villain. The young Pan has yet to be cast, but will be a boy between 10 and 12 years old.

The film, which is slated for release on July 17, 2015, is a reimagining of the classic tale, and will present a very different take on the story and its characters, featuring an international cast. Mara is currently shooting lesbian drama Carol with Cate Blanchett. Her most recent films include Her, Ain't Them Bodies Saints, Side Effects and The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo.

Terry Gilliam Says Zack Snyder's WATCHMEN "Worked Well"

Terry-Gilliam-Watchmen-031314-Dragonlord.jpg

During a Reddit “Ask Me Anything” interview in support of his upcoming film Zero Theorem, filmmaker Terry Gilliam told a fan that he “was happy to avoid” the problem of squeezing Watchmen into the constraints of a single feature film, but that in the end he though director Zack Snyder’s film “worked well,” and that its faults were more or less what Gilliam expected, having worked on the film himself. Asked what he felt about Snyder having made the film “to save it from the Terry Gilliams of the world,” Gilliam said:

"Charles McKeown and I wrote the script. I always felt it was not the best way to treat it because trying to squeeze it into 2.5 hours is an unlikely thing. I think we wrote an interesting version of it, but I think it needed more time to really work. I thought Zack’s film worked well, but it suffered from the very problem that I was happy to avoid by not making the film."

According to producer Joel Silver, who was attached to the film for years and worked with a number of directors, but was ultimately unable to come to an agreement with Warner Bros. as to how to move forward with the “unfilmable” comic book series, Gilliam’s version would have involved a time and reality-bending twist ending wherein the characters would rewrite the past and, upon returning to the future, find out that their world was simply a fictional construct and that they are all comic book characters.

The Falcon Spotlighted in New THE WINTER SOLDIER Featurette

Falcon-Anthony-Mackie-031314-Dragonlord.jpg

Captain America: The Winter Soldier might technically be a standalone movie for the first Avenger, but that doesn’t mean that he’s the only superhero in it – or even the only Avenger. While Thor and Tony Stark have been off on their own adventures since deflecting the attack on New York, Steve Rogers and Natasha Romanoff have remained in the ranks of SHIELD as highly effective agents, and in The Winter Soldier they are joined by Sam Wilson AKA Falcon.

Anthony Mackie has said that Black Widow and Falcon are not Captain America’s sidekicks, but that the three of them instead have a very solid working relationship, each with their own individual skill sets. Since The Winter Soldier will be Sam Wilson’s first outing in the Marvel cinematic universe, the studio has released a new featurette, introducing the character to audiences who might not be familiar with the comics.

It’s an exciting look at the movie with some behind-the-scenes footage of Mackie in his specially-designed flight suit, but a lot of Marvel fans are probably already at maximum hype potential for The Winter Soldier. Early buzz from screenings has been overwhelmingly positive, with a lot of people saying that it’s one of the best Marvel movies so far.

Guy Pearce Joins Johnny Depp in Scott Cooper's BLACK MASS

Guy-Pearce-Image-600x200-Dragonlord.jpg

Now that Johnny Depp has returned to the mob drama Black Mass as infamous Boston mob boss Whitey Bulger, and Joel Edgerton is locked in as the childhood friend turned FBI agent who pursued him while also helping him stay at large, the rest of the cast is starting to fill out. Variety has word that Guy Pearce (Memento, Iron Man 3) is in talks to play Depp's brother, though it's not clear how integral the character is in the real-life story about the criminal turned FBI informant, who used the opportunity as a way to get rid of his competition before getting double-crossed by the agency and forced to go on the run.

The project had some trouble awhile ago when the budget was reduced, and could no longer afford Depp's fee for the film. Shortly thereafter, Barry Levinson fell out of the director's chair. But then Depp circled back to the project when Crazy Heart and Out of the Furnace director Scott Cooper came into the mix. At one time, Tom Hardy was being lined up for Edgerton's role, but clearly that never solidified. Pearce will next be seen alongside Robert Pattinson in The Rover, a crime film from Animal Kingdom director David Mich

Famke Janssen and Maggie Grace Joins Liam Neeson in TAKEN 3

Taken-2-Neeson-Grace-Janssen-Dragonlord.jpg

Maggie Grace and Famke Janssen have both officially signed on to Taken 3. According to new reports that surfaced on Wednesday. The action thriller series saw both actors in the first two iterations of the film alongside Liam Neeson as his daughter and his wife respectively. Moviefone reports the Janssen will reprise her usual role but Neeson has said the character of his wife could have a larger role in this third film.

Maggie Grace has officially signed on the dotted line to also reprise her character in Taken 3. While Famke Janssen played her mother in what has been a sort of peripheral role during the series, Grace was the one who was actually kidnapped in the first flick. Filming for Taken 3 is set to begin later this year and will be looking to see a big advantage of the drawing power of Maggie Grace and Famke Janssen, along with Liam Neeson in order to keep the financial juggernaut rolling down the tracks.

U.S. Trailer for CUBAN FURY Starring Nick Frost, Chris O'Dowd

Cuban-Fury-Frost-ODowd-Dragonlord.jpg

A new U.S. trailer for director James Griffiths‘ salsa dancing comedy Cuban Fury has been released online. The film stars Nick Frost as a former salsa-dancing prodigy who attempts to regain his dancing form in order to impress his new American boss (Rashida Jones). He runs across formidable competition by way of his co-worker, played by Chris O’Dowd. The chemistry between Frost and O’Dowd continues to look great, and Frost appears more than comfortable carrying the comedic lead role. he film also stars Ian McShane and Olivia Coleman. Cuban Fury opens in limited release on April 11.

The idea for the movie actually originated with Frost, who told Metro he thought it up during a night of drinking. He said he sent a drunken email outlining the story to his long-time producer Nira Park (who worked on the previous Frost/Pegg movies), who loved the idea. Little did he know at the time it would lead to seven months of dance training so that he would be convincing as a fleet-footed Salsa master.

Helena Bonham Carter Returns in THROUGH THE LOOKING GLASS

Helena-Bonham-Carter-Red-Queen-Dragonlord.jpg

Helena Bonham Carter is in final negotiations to reprise her role as the Red Queen in Disney’s Alice in Wonderland sequel Through the Looking Glass. Previously announced, Sacha Baron Cohen was in talks to rejoin Sweeney Todd co-star Johnny Depp, who is also reprising his role as the Mad Hatter alongside Mia Wasikowska as Alice. Cohen’s role is yet to be announced, but we should assume it will be comical. Variety confirms Carter’s return.

Few plot details have been revealed, but Through the Looking Glass is well-known as a novel. The Tim Burton adaptation played very loose with the original source material, so the sequel will also probably be different from its book. Through the Looking Glass is considered a sequel to Alice in Wonderland even though it makes no reference to the events in the earlier book.

Despite poor reviews and a horrible 3D experience, the first film grossed over a billion dollars worldwide. Helena Bonham Carter will also be seen in Disney’s Cinderella as the Fairy Godmother. Directed by James Bobin (The Muppets), the film stars Johnny Depp and Mia Wasikowska. Through the Looking Glass opens May 27, 2016.

New Clips from MONSTERS UNIVERSITY Short, PARTY CENTRAL

Monsters-University-Party-Central-Dragonlord.jpg

A dozen years passed between Monsters, Inc. and Monsters University, but Disney/Pixar isn’t waiting nearly that long to bring the dynamic duo of Mike and Sulley back again. Party Central was made to be included on the home video release of Monsters University, but was given a theatrical release instead. The short premiered at the D23 Expo 2013. It was set to be released with the theatrical release of The Good Dinosaur, but after The Good Dinosaur was pushed back to November 2015, it was announced it will be theatrically released with Muppets Most Wanted, which opens on March 21st.

Disney has released two new clips featuring the Oozma Kappa brothers getting a bit devious. Mike and Sulley are back at Monsters University for a fun-filled weekend with their Oozma Kappa fraternity brothers. The gang is throwing their first party, but no one’s showing up. Luckily for them, Mike and Sulley have come up with a plan to make sure “Party Central” is the most epic party the school has ever seen. So Mike and Sulley resort to trickery to “steal” the biggest party of the year from their rival frat, Roar Omega Roar. The new clips highlight one of their schemes, which hinges on the assumption that college kids will do anything and go anywhere for free pizza.

Bryan Singer Says X-MEN: APOCALYPSE Takes Place in the 1980s

Bryan-Singer-Apocalypse-031414-Dragonlord.jpg

While many are certainly looking forward to X-Men: Days of Future Past, Singer already has his eye on the next movie, as he’s currently breaking the story on the DOFP follow-up X-Men: Apocalypse. Speaking with Total Film in the latest issue of the magazine, Singer said X-Men: Apocalypse is progressing nicely in anticipation of the film’s May 27, 2016 release date:

“We’re currently breaking the story. We’re almost ready to go. Dan Harris, Michael Dougherty and Simon Kinberg are in the office across the street from me, working on story stuff right now. It’s great to have Dan and Michael back. We’re going to deal with the notion of ancient mutants – the fact they were born and existed thousands of years ago. But it’ll be a contemporary movie – well, it’ll take place in the ’80s… The ’80s is a period now – it’s hard for me to believe that!”

“Apocalypse will have more of the mass destruction that X-Men films, to date, have not relied upon. There’s definitely now a character and a story that allow room for that kind of spectacle… I don’t want to get too specific, but we’ll introduce familiar characters in a younger time. That’ll be fun to show the audience. I call these movies in-between-quels. It’s a mind-fuck sometimes in terms of where things fall in the timeline!”

Extended B-Roll Footage, New Clip from THE WINTER SOLDIER

Captain-America-The-Winter-Soldier-Set-031414-Dragonlord.jpg

The release of Marvel’s latest picture, Captain America: The Winter Soldier, is imminent, and to make the wait slightly easier (or possibly harder), the studio has released an extended reel of behind-the-scenes footage. If you’re curious how one of these massive Marvel tentpoles gets put together, this is an opportunity to be a fly on the wall as directors Joe and Anthony Russo craft the Captain America follow-up. The story finds Chris Evans’ Cap teaming up with Black Widow (Scarlett Johansson) and Falcon (Anthony Mackie) to expose a conspiracy, fight off professional assassins, and battle a new enemy, the Winter Soldier (Sebastian Stan).

Is that not enough for you? Well, that's fine because Marvel has another special treat for you as well. In celebration of the Captain America sequel premiere last night in Los Angeles, Marvel has also released a brand new clip from the movie, with shows an amazing action sequence featuring both Cap and Falcon. Prepare for awesomeness.

Captain America: The Winter Soldier finds its titular hero (Chris Evans) still trying to adjust in the modern world, and working as a field agent alongside Black Widow (Scarlett Johansson) for S.H.I.E.L.D. When tragedy strikes, however, Cap suddenly realizes that he has no idea who he can trust - including the incredibly powerful organization he is a part of - and things are only made worse by the return of a ghost from his past. Captain America: The Winter Soldier opens in 2D, 3D, and IMAX 3D on April 4th.

Seth Grahame-Smith to Direct Something Wicked This Way Comes

23vknzq.jpg

Disney is making a new version of the classic Ray Bradbury thriller novel Something Wicked This Way Comes. The studio, which turned Bradbury’s novel into a 1983 movie, has set Seth Grahame-Smith to make his feature directorial debut on the project. He will begin work immediately writing a treatment, and the studio then will hire a writer to script the project. Grahame-Smith and David Katzenberg’s KatzSmith Productions will be the producing banner and Katzenberg will produce the film.

The novel tells the story of how Mr. Dark, the evil proprietor of a traveling carnival who preys on the residents of a small town by bartering possession of their souls for the dreams each one has. Grahame-Smith said it was his favorite book as a child, but he doesn’t feel the movie is sacrosanct. Although the late Bradbury wrote the script, he later lamented that the movie lost a lot of the book. Grahame-Smith intends to put it back and plug a new generation into the tale.

While the scribe Disney will hire works on the script based on Grahame-Smith’s treatment, he will finish the Beetlejuice sequel he’s working on with Tim Burton with Michael Keaton hopefully reprising. Burton next is helming Miss Peregrine’s Home For Peculiar Children for Fox, but will follow with Beetlejuice, which Grahame-Smith scripted and he and Katzenberg are producing for Fox. Grahame-Smith is separately completing a sequel novel to Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter, which Grand Central will publish in January.

New Trailer for Supernatural Horror Film THE QUIET ONES

The-Quiet-Ones-Trailer-Dragonlord.jpg

Lionsgate has released a new trailer for director John Pogue’s supernatural horror film The Quiet Ones. The pic stars Jared Harris as an unorthodox professor who sets up a series of dangerous experiments in order to explore the dark energy manifested by the damaged psyche of a young girl. Despite the now obligatory inclusion of a found footage aspect (though it appears to be minimal), the pic seems like a solid entry in the historical horror genre. The period setting sets The Quiet Ones apart from the deluge of modern, low-budget horror films that are currently populating the marketplace, so at least it feels a bit fresh. The film also stars Sam Claflin, Olivia Cooke, Erin Richards, and Rory Fleck-Byrne. The Quiet Ones opens April 25th.

Synopsis: A university student (Sam Claflin of The Hunger Games: Catching Fire) and some classmates are recruited to carry out a private experiment — to create a poltergeist. Their subject: an alluring, but dangerously disturbed young woman (Olivia Cooke of Bates Motel). Their quest: to explore the dark energy that her damaged psyche might manifest. As the experiment unravels along with their sanity, the rogue PHD students are soon confronted with a terrifying reality: they have triggered an unspeakable force with a power beyond all explanation.

Rupert Friend is toplining the movie as the title character while Zachary Quinto plays the lead villain. Thomas Kretschmann (Stalingrad) also plays a villain. The complete details of Hinds' role are being kept under wraps, but it is known to be about a pivotal event involving a scientist. Joel Edgerton Joins Robert Pattinson in Anton Corbijn’s LIFE

Felony-Bandeau.jpg

Joel Edgerton is set for Anton Corbijn’s (The American) Life, starring opposite Robert Pattinson and Dane DeHaan. “The story centers on the friendship that developed between photographer Dennis Stock (Pattinson) and actor James Dean (DeHaan) when Stock was commissioned to photograph the star for “Life” magazine in 1955. The assignment took the pair on a photographic journey from Los Angeles to New York and on to Indiana.” Edgerton stars as Magnum Photography editor, John Morris, who negotiated the deal for the photos with “Life”.

Life recently began shooting in Ontario, Canada. Iain Canning, Christina Piovesan and Emile Sherman are attached to produce with production planned to begin in February 2014. Edgerton recently wrapped production on “Exodus” and “Midnight Special” and will soon begin shooting alongside Johnny Depp on “Black Mass.”

First Good Look at Ronan and Glenn Close from GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY

In the upcoming documentary special Assembling a Universe, we get our first good look at Ronan the Accuser (played by Lee Pace) in full costume for Guardians of the Galaxy. I love it, the costume is spot-on and very faithful to the comics. But it also dawned on me that Pace might be wasted on the character as he will be totally unrecognizable and lacking in personality, similar to past Marvel movies like Colm Feore as King Laufey in Thor and both Christopher Eccleston as Malekith and Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje as Kurse in Thor: The Dark World.

The new pics (via CBM) also give us our first look at 6-time Academy Award nominee Glenn Close as Nova Commander Rael. Other images include another look at Ronan the Accuser and Benicio Del Toro as Mugatu, I mean, The Collector. Marvel's Assembling a Universe will air Tuesday, March 18 (8:00-9:01 p.m., ET) on ABC.
