First TV Spot for DAWN OF THE APES Reveals Giant Ape Army

Dawn-Apes-First-Official-Image-Dragonlord.jpg

The survivors on The Walking Dead may have a literal horde of problems to face on a daily basis, but they haven't gone up against anything like the Apes. And in a nice bit of cross-pocalyptic promotion, a new look at the eagerly anticipated pre-sequel Dawn of the Planet of the Apes premiered during the season finale of Walking Dead. The teaser features more scenes than the brief trailer released in December, with a new voiceover. But the money shot comes at the very beginning, as a large metal door opens to reveal an army of apes on horseback.

Dawn of the Planet of the Apes takes places years after the near-destruction of the human race, and ascension of intelligent apes — led by the soulful Caesar, played by Andy Serkis in 2011's Rise of the Planet of the Apes. The sequel continues the long march to joining up with the continuity of the original Planet of the Apes movie, though how far (or close) it comes we won't be sure until it hits theaters in July. Directed by Matt Reeves, the film also stars Gary Oldman, Jason Clarke, Keri Russell, Kodi Smit-McPhee, Toby Kebbell and Anung Un Rama's GF Judy Greer. Dawn of the Planet of the Apes is in theaters on July 11.

Disney's FROZEN Becomes No. 1 Animated Film of All Time

Frozen-Wins-Annie-Awards-Dragonlord.jpg

Disney's Oscar-winning Frozen has become the top-grossing animated film of all time, surpassing the $1.063 billion earned by fellow Disney/Pixar title Toy Story 3. Frozen now occupies the No. 10 spot on the list of the biggest global blockbusters and is the first billion-dollar title from Disney Animation Studios, as well as the seventh from Disney. It has earned $398.4 million domestically and $674 million internationally for a total $1.072 billion.

The 3D animated tentpole passed up Toy Story 3 over the weekend, thanks to a strong run in Japan -- its final market -- and more than four months after it was released in theaters in the U.S. The film has grossed $50.5 million so far in Japan. It also passed up Disney's live-action Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest ($1.66 billion). Frozen now takes aim at The Dark Knight Rises, which amassed $1.084 billion worldwide.

Jupiter Ascending looks awful.

What exactly do you object too?

It's a space opera, and we don't get nearly enough space opera as we deserve. At least it's got starships shooting at each other and that's enough for me.

Director Brad Bird Says Frozone Is Part of THE INCREDIBLES 2

The-Incredibles-with-Frozone-033014-Dragonlord.jpg

Now that Disney’s Bob Iger has copped to the existence of an in-development Incredibles sequel, Samuel L. Jackson has been given license to share what he knows. Or the most important scrap of what he knows, at least. Jackson told Digital Spy (via Rama’s Screen): "Every time I run into Brad [Bird] he always tells me Frozone is part of what’s going on, so I have to believe that… I guess they could be the Incredibles without Frozone, but I think Frozone would be a wonderful addition to what’s already there."

Jackson’s own personal interests in seeing the film lie elsewhere, apparently. He also said: "I’m just looking forward to seeing what Jack-Jack turned into." That’s a good point. Will the sequel be set far enough ahead in time that Jack-Jack will have ‘settled’ into one super-identity or not? The dynamic might not work so well if you shift the other kids ages along accordingly. Jackson can be seen next in Captain America: The Winter Soldier on April 4th (read my spoiler-free review HERE).

Jerry Bruckheimer Says TOP GUN 2 Will Be Tom Cruise Vs. Drones

Top-Gun-Tom-Cruise-033114-Dragonlord.jpg

It has been 28 years since Top Gun first took to the skies, and producer Jerry Bruckheimer reveals that a sequel is close to becoming a reality. The producer told The Huffington Post that a follow up to the Tom Cruise blockbuster, which was set at the Navy's elite fighter weapon school in San Diego during the Cold War, will reflect today's changing world of warfare. The original film's director, Tony Scott, died in 2012, and Top Gun 2 was one of three films on his plate before he passed away from an apparent suicide.

"We've been trying to get that movie made for 30 years, and I think we're getting closer and closer," Bruckheimer revealed in the interview. "Don [Simpson] and I tried to develop something, we didn't succeed. [Tom] Cruise took over, and he tried to develop something, and he didn't succeed. Now we're back at it."

"The concept is, basically, are the pilots obsolete because of drones. Cruise is going to show them that they're not obsolete. They're here to stay," explained the producer. "It's just getting to the starting place. Fortunately for Tom, he's very busy, so you have to find a slot he can fit into and get a budget that Paramount feels they can make the picture," he explained, adding that there is no director yet for the sequel.

Norman Reedus Joins Stellar Ensemble Cast of TRIPLE NINE

Norman-Reedus-Image-033114-Dragonlord.jpg

The Walking Dead star Norman Reedus will spend his hiatus from the AMC show in the stellar ensemble cast of Triple Nine, the John Hillcoat-directed heist film that begins production this summer. Open Road Films pre-bought domestic distribution rights just prior to Berlin and will release the film wide next year. Reedus, who just completed his fourth season playing Daryl Dixon, joins Casey Affleck, Woody Harrelson, Chiwetel Ejiofor, Kate Winslet, Anthony Mackie, Aaron Paul, Teresa Palmer, and Gal Gadot (Wonder Woman in the Batman Vs. Superman film).

Matt Cook scripted the thriller, in which a crew of dirty cops is blackmailed by the Russian mob to execute a virtually impossible heist. The only way to pull it off is to manufacture a 999, police code for

FAST & FURIOUS 7 Resumes Filming After Paul Walker's Death

Fast-and-Furious-7-Set-022714-Dragonlord.jpg

After a four-month hiatus following the unexpected death of star Paul Walker, Fast & Furious 7 resumed production on Monday, March 31. Director James Wan shared a photo on Instagram Monday of a placard from set, writing: “First day back filming. Better and stronger.” The Universal production, which will shoot in Abu Dhabi in April, will bring back stars Vin Diesel, Michelle Rodriguez, Tyrese Gibson and Chris "Ludacris" Bridges for the remainder of the shoot. Wan, who is taking over as director of the franchise from Justin Lin, has about one year until the film is due to hit theaters on April 10, 2015.

Fast 7 was about half finished with shooting when Walker -- who played ex-cop Brian O'Conner -- was killed in a car crash in Valencia, Calif., on Nov. 30. The tragedy required the film's original release date to be scrapped and Wan, writer Chris Morgan and Universal to pore over existing footage and tweak the script. Insiders now believe Walker's character can be "retired" -- rather than killed off -- in a way that will allow the franchise to continue.

The first footage from the action car franchise debuted at CinemaCon in Las Vegas last week. It featured Walker and the rest of the actors sitting in cars that are dropped out of an airplane and parachute their way down to the ground.
