Rumor: Aidan Turner Frontrunner as Next James Bond According to Bookies

Aidan-Turner-And-Then-There-Were-None-Dragonlord.jpg

Poldark star Aidan Turner is now the hot favourite to be announced as the next James Bond .

Fans are predicting the 32-year-old could soon leave behind Cornwall's tin mines for the slick world of international espionage as they put their money on him to replace Daniel Craig . Although Craig has not yet confirmed he is leaving the role , Ladbrokes are reporting that Turner is now front-runner to be cast as 007, with odds at 1-2 after a big weekend of betting.

The Night Manager star Tom Hiddleston trails behind in second with odds of 2-1, with Tom Hardy, Idris Elba, Henry Cavill and Damian Lewis making up the rest of the list.

Ladbrokes spokesman Jessica Bridge said: "Money talks, and it's the Poldark man that punters want as their next Bond. "Turner's been shaking and stirring the betting for the last week and it's not a huge surprise to see he's been backed into odds-on."

The Irishman is no stranger to big franchises, having starred as dwarf Kili in Peter Jackson's The Hobbit trilogy.

Ian McShane Reveals New Details for JOHN WICK: CHAPTER 2

Ian-McShane-John-Wick-102615a-Dragonlord.jpg

In the 2014 sleeper hit John Wick, Ian McShane (Deadwood) played the mysterious and enigmatic owner of the Continental Hotel, a boutique hotel that caters to assassins. He didn't have a lot of screen time in first film, but he made quite an impression. Will we see more of him in the upcoming sequel, John Wick: Chapter 2?

"Well, I’m kind of the only one left from the first one," McShane told Entertainment Weekly. "This is same kind of premise. It’s not like two years later, but pretty soon after the first one. Keanu [Reeves] is a great guy. They got this terrific Italian kid, Riccardo Scamarcio, who plays the chief villain, who’s excellent, and we have a lot of stuff together."

"And the guy who directs it, Chad Stahelski, is really smart," McShane said. "He’s been Keanu’s stunt guy for [nearly] 20 years and he’s studied muay-thai. He’s got every stunt man who’s available for [this film]. The action looks like it was done by somebody out of Hong Kong instead of Hollywood which I always think is a great sight."

"Keanu gets a new dog. But yes, it’s about what comes on him after that," he offered. "It’s all about the assassin’s code, if you like. He’s killed a Russian gangster and now there’s a contract out on him, so it’s a continuation. I loved the first one. This could be even better than the first."

STAR WARS' John Boyega Cast as the Lead in PACIFIC RIM 2

John-Boyega-Pacific-Rim-2-Dragonlord.jpg

Legendary Pictures has set Star Wars: The Force Awakens star John Boyega for the lead role for the second installment of its Pacific Rim franchise. Steven S. DeKnight is directing the film, which will begin production in the fourth quarter of this year, based on the world created by Guillermo del Toro and Travis Beacham.

Boyega will play the son of the character played by Idris Elba in the del Toro-directed original film. Universal will release the film worldwide, everywhere but China. The 2013 original grossed $411 million.

Thomas Tull, Mary Parent, Jon Jashni, and del Toro will produce the action adventure film along with Boyega and Femi Oguns under their Upper Room Productions shingle. Cale Boyter is executive producer. The picture is a beach head project for Legendary, under the leadership of Parent, who became Tull’s vice chairman of Worldwide Production after Jashni exited to start his own venture. The principals have confirmed to Deadline they found their man in Boyega.

“It is undeniable that with all his talent and natural charm, John stands out amongst today’s generation of young leading men,” said Parent.

Said del Toro: “I am very proud and happy to welcome John into a fantastic sandbox. The Pacific Rim universe will be reinforced with him as a leading man as it continues to be a multicultural, multi-layered world. ‘The World saving the world’ was our goal and I couldn’t think of a better man for the job.”

Boyega, whose breakout came with Attack The Block, next stars with Tom Hanks and Emma Watson in The Circle, and follows The Force Awakens with Star Wars: Episode VIII, as well as the animated BBC miniseries Watership Down opposite James McAvoy and Ben Kingsley. Boyega will make his stage-starring debut on the West End in Woyzeck at The Old Vic, next year.

THE DARK TOWER's Michael Barbieri Joins SPIDER-MAN: HOMECOMING

Michael-Barbieri-Spider-Man-Homecoming-Dragonlord.jpg

Spider-Man: Homecoming continues to fill out the roles of Peter Parker's classmates, as Michael Barbieri has joined the film, Heroic Hollywood was first to report. The fourteen year-old actor is currently filming The Dark Tower also at Sony Pictures, who will co-produce Homecoming with Marvel Studios.

Comicbook.com sources say Barbieri's character will be a new one, though he'll be based off the Ultimate Spider-Man character Ganke. In that comicbook from Marvel Comics, Ganke is the trusted best friend of the other Spider-Man, Miles Morales. His affinity for superheroes and unwavering optimism and support of his friend are his standout characteristics, which can be expected to be found in Barbieri's new character.

Spider-Man: Homecoming is gearing up to begin principal photography this summer, starring Tom Holland in the lead role of Peter Parker, Spider-Man. He first appeared in the role in Captain America: Civil War, where he got a costume and gear upgrade from Tony Stark. The character is in a landmark rights-sharing deal between Sony Pictures and Marvel Studios, where Sony produces (and benefits from) his solo films, but the character resides within the Marvel Cinematic Universe and Marvel Studios can use him in their team films.

Robert Downey, Jr. has been confirmed as appearing in in Homecoming, again reprising his role as Tony Stark, Iron Man. Other cast include Marisa Tomei as Aunt May, Zendaya as another classmate of Peter's, and Michael Keaton as the primary villain, largely speculated and rumored to be The Vulture. Spider-Man: Homecoming hits theaters July 7, 2017.

Producer Brian Grazer Says SPLASH Remake in the Works But with a Twist

Splash-Daryl-Hannah-060616-Dragonlord.jpg

Producer Brian Grazer just gave an interview to CNBC in which he confirmed a Splash remake is currently in development at Grazer and Ron Howard’s Imagine Entertainment.

“I’m actually gonna do ‘Splash’ today,” said Grazer. “I’m actually going to do it from the point of view of… I can’t say anything about it. There’s a movie star involved, I haven’t announced it.”

1984’s mermaid-in-New York love story Splash not only marked him and director Ron Howard’s first out-and-out smash hit, it also made stars out of Tom Hanks and Darryl Hannah. The interviewer brought up Grazer’s original treatment for the film, titled “Wet,” which was told from the mermaid’s point of view as opposed to the human man.

“We’re going to do a version of that, but I can’t tell you the twist,” confirmed Grazer.

While he may not be able to say the twist, Comingsoon believes a script acquired by Universal Pictures and Imagine Entertainment in 2009 titled Merman might give us an idea of what that twist might be. The romantic comedy, written by Jennifer Abu Hollander and Jeff Moskowitz, follows a merman who comes to land so he can win back his mermaid fiancee, who has left him for a real man. So not only would the story be told from the point of view of a male mermaid, it would be a love triangle.

Eddie Murphy and Brett Ratner to Reteam for Netflix Movie SOUL SOUL SOUL

Brett-Ratner-Eddie-Murphy-Dragonlord.jpg

Netflix is developing the comedy Soul Soul Soul: The Murray Murray Story. Chris Case, who previously worked on TV series Legit and co-created Yahoo's Sin City Saints, will write the script.

The film is a fake documentary about an iconic '60s soul singer named Murray Murray. After a hot new artist samples his hit 1962 song, Murray attempts to get his old band back together in the hopes of taking down hip-hop.

Eddie Murphy and Brett Ratner are negotiating to star and direct, respectively. Sources say they may wait to see the script before deals move forward. Murphy and Ratner would be reuniting after working on 2011’s Tower Heist together, and were at one time attached to collaborate on Beverly Hills Cop 4.

Ratner most recently directed Hercules, and is attached to helm The Libertine, starring Johnny Depp. Murphy’s recent films include A Thousand Words and Mr. Church opposite Britt Robertson.

2nd Trailer for Kevin Smith's YOGA HOSERS

2jbs67d.jpg

A new trailer for writer/director Kevin Smith’s new comedy Yoga Hosers has been released online, for consumption at your own risk. The film stars Harley Quinn Smith and Lily-Rose Depp as a pair of teenage convenience store clerks both named Colleen who become embroiled in a mysterious invasion by Nazi sausage monsters, aptly named “Bratzis,” who are all played by Kevin Smith himself in heavy makeup. The Colleens are aided in their case by Johnny Depp’s bumbling private detective Guy Lapionte, who first appeared in Smith’s horror thriller Tusk.

This trailer gives viewers a solid feel for what they’ll be in for with the film, and if you find the joke-y Canadaian accents too much to stomach in this trailer, you may find the full film a very tough watch. The film also stars Austin Butler, Tyler Posey, Vanessa Paradis, JustinLong, and Adam Brody. Yoga Hosers opens in theaters on July 29th.

Shay Mitchell to Star in Screen Gems Thriller CADAVER

Shay-Mitchell-060616-Dragonlord.jpg

Pretty Little Liars star Shay Mitchell will star in Cadaver, a horror thriller from Screen Gems. Diederik Van Rooijen is directing the project, which is being produced by Sean Robins and Todd Garner via their Broken Road Productions banner.

It is a noteworthy move for Mitchell, who has starred on the hit TV show for seven seasons. The Canadian actress just made her feature debut with April’s all-star comedy Mother’s Day but with Cadaver, she now jumps to headliner status.

Written by Brian Sieve, Cadaver centers on a disgraced ex-cop and recovering addict who takes a job in a graveyard shift at the morgue of the hospital in which she got sober. Soon after a mysterious and brutally massacred body is delivered to the morgue, the woman begins to witness terrorizing and violent murders, leading her to face off against an evil entity.

Sacha Baron Cohen to Star in MANDRAKE THE MAGICIAN with Etan Cohen to Direct

Sacha-Baron-Cohen-Mandrake-the-Magician-Dragonlord.jpg

And now for his next trick, Sacha Baron Cohen will star in Mandrake the Magician for Warner Bros. Get Hard writer-director Etan Cohen is set to direct the film, which is based on the popular character from the syndicated newspaper comic strip created by Lee Falk in 1934. The most recent drafts of the script come from David Peoples and Janet Peoples and Puss In Boots scribe Tom Wheeler.

The story centers around the adventures of Mandrake, the illusionist and escape artist with the power to hypnotize his foes. With his companion Lothar, he travels the globe solving mysteries and fighting evildoers – including his twin brother who uses his powers for evil instead than good. Sources say that the plan is to update the character for the 21st century, with Mandrake being recruited by the United States government for a secret mission.

The film marks the first adaptation of the character since the 1954 TV movie starring Coe Norton, and the first feature adaptation since Columbia Pictures’ Mandrake, The Magician in 1939, starring Warren Hull.

The character, who has been described as “America’s first superhero,” is known as a magician whose work is based on an unusually fast hypnotic technique, through which his subjects see illusions when he “gestures hypnotically.” He uses the technique to defeat villains, including gangsters, mad scientists, extraterrestrials, and characters from other dimensions. He has the ability to turn invisible, shapeshift, levitate, and teleport thanks to the powers imbued to him by the hat, cloak, and wand he inherited from his father.

Hampton Fancher (co-writer of the original) and Michael Green wrote the new screenplay based on an idea by Fancher and Ridley Scott. Principal photography is scheduled to begin in July.
