New Trailer for THE BYE BYE MAN Unleashes a New Horror Villain

The-Bye-Bye-Man-Dragonlord.jpg

STX Entertainment has released a new trailer for their upcoming horror film The Bye Bye Man. From the producers of Oculus and The Strangers and director Stacey Tile (Snoop Dogg’s Hood of Horror), the film centers on a group of college friends who discover the horrific Bye Bye Man, an ancient evil that grows ever-more powerful the more you think or speak about him, and once he’s powerful enough, he’ll possess you entirely and make you do, presumably, terrible things.

There’s a lot going on in the trailer, and a lot of warnings not to “think it” or “say it”, but very little of it adds up to much more than some blatant music cues and underwhelming CGI. The Bye Bye Man stars Carrie-Anne Moss, Douglas Smith, Faye Dunaway and Doug Jones as the titular ghoul, and arrives in theaters January 13, 2017.

FEAR THE WALKING DEAD's Cliff Curtis Joins Jason Statham in MEG

Cliff-Curtis-Meg-Shark-Dragonlord.jpg

Cliff Curtis has been set to star alongside Jason Statham in Warner Bros’ sci-fi action title Meg, directed by Jon Turtletaub. Dean Georgaris adapts the script (with a rewrite from James Vanderbilt) from the 1997 novel by Steve Alten, Meg: A Novel of Deep Terror.

The story follows a Navy deep-sea diver whose military career ended in disgrace after his team encountered a living Megalodon, a prehistoric ancestor of the shark believed to reach up to 60 feet in length. With his team destroyed by the beast, he soon is offered a chance at redemption when an international underwater observation program led by Chinese scientists encounters the same beast after a volcanic eruption released it from an underwater trench into open water.

Curtis takes the role of the Operations Chief aboard the Mana One, joining Ruby Rose, Rainn Wilson and Chinese actress Li Bingbing in the cast.

New Zealand native Curtis stars on AMC’s Fear the Walking Dead and recently produced and starred in New Zealand indie feature The Dark Horse, based on the true story of Kiwi chess player Genesis Potini who suffered from severe bipolar disorder. Curtis has had roles in such films as Live Free or Die Hard, Training Day,Three Kings and The Fountain.

Michael Giacchino Replaces Alexandre Desplat as ROGUE ONE Composer

Michael-Giacchino-Rogue-One-Dragonlord.jpg

Rogue One, the first Star Wars standalone movie, will be whistling a new tune. Michael Giacchino, the composer behind such movies as the Star Trek reboot and Pixar movies ranging from The Incredibles to Inside Out, will score the upcoming movie, stepping in for Alexandre Desplat, who was originally slated to work on the movie.

The recent reshoots are behind the switch, according to sources.

Rogue One went under extensive reshoots this summer that saw writer Tony Gilroy take on a filmmaker role during the shoot and the post-production process as Disney and Lucasfilm sought to clarify story and tonal issues for the movie that opens Dec. 16.

But the reshoots also altered the scoring calendar and Desplat, who won an Oscar for The Grand Budapest Hotel, was no longer available. Disney and Lucasfilm then turned to Giacchino, who has a long relationship with the studio and its various divisions.

Giacchino is also a Star Wars fan and appeared as a storm trooper in Star Wars: The Force Awakens, directed by pal J.J. Abrams and for whom he’s scored films and television shows.

Tom Cruise MISSION: IMPOSSIBLE 6 Pay Dispute Halts Preproduction

Mission-Impossible-Rogue-Nation-081916-Dragonlord.jpg

A dispute over salary between Tom Cruise and Paramount has halted preproduction on Mission: Impossible 6, multiple sources tell The Hollywood Reporter.

The studio, which was co-financing the movie with Skydance, was in the prep stages for a January 2017 production start and Christopher McQuarrie, who is back on directing duties after reinvigorated the franchise with the fifth installment, is writing the script.

Sources tell THR that one of the contentious points is Cruise's back-end profit participation, with the actor looking to match or exceed what he is getting paid by Universal for starring in The Mummy, which he is currently shooting in London. Mummy is a pivotal movie for Universal, which is looking to launch a cinematic franchise and has hinged plenty on Cruise’s star power.

This is the second hiccup this summer for Mission: Impossible 6. In July, the project threatened to fall apart over what one source said was script issues. That obstacle pushed a November start into the new year.

Paramount initially wanted Mission: Impossible 6 for a late 2017 release but it is currently undated.

Tom Cruise Closes MISSION: IMPOSSIBLE 6 Deal, Preproduction to Resume

Light the match and cue the music. After contentious dealmaking halted preproduction on Mission: Impossible 6, earlier this summer, Tom Cruise is on the verge of closing his deal to return to the Paramount action-thriller franchise.

Cruise’s return for a sixth installment in a movie series that he has been toplining and producing since 1996 seemed like a no-brainer, but negotiations with Paramount took an unexpected turn with the studio, which was co-financing the movie with Skydance, digging in on things such as backend profit participation.

The project was heading toward a January 2017 start when the pause button was pushed.

Now sources tell THR that issues have been resolved and M:I6 is being restarted. Spring 2017 will be the new start time.

Christopher McQuarrie, who reinvigorated the franchise with the fifth installment, wrote the script and will direct.

Will Ferrell Drops Out of Comedy CAPTAIN DAD Days Before Shooting

Will-Ferrell-091616-Dragonlord.jpg

Just days before production was set to begin, Will Ferrell has dropped out of the indie comedy Captain Dad.

The film, which also is set to star Michael Cera and Catherine Keener, was scheduled to begin production Sept. 26 in and around Cartegena, Colombia. Ferrell's last-second exit has left director Sebastián Silva and the producers scrambling. Several of the cast and crew already are in Columbia awaiting word on the project's future.

In a twist of life imitating art, Captain Dad chronicles a family vacation gone awry when the plans break down. Silva also wrote the screenplay.

It is unclear if producers Anne Carey, Bingo Gubelmann, Benji Kohn and Austin Stark can get the film back on track given the prominence of Ferrell's character (he plays the titular dad). Sources fear the project could fall apart.
