Nate Diaz's choice of words on Thursday cost him $20,000 the next day.

The Ultimate Fighting Championship announced Friday both a fine and a three-month suspension for the fighter, stemming from using a homophobic slur on Twitter against fellow competitor Bryan Caraway.

The suspension would put Diaz on the shelf through Aug. 17. While it is likely not to delay his next scheduled fight, it does mean that during his suspension UFC won't book him for any requested paid personal appearances during the period.

"The language used in his tweet was regrettable, offensive and inconsistent with the values and culture of the organization, and is not tolerable," said the statement by Zuffa, the parent company of the UFC.
They also stated that the money will be donated to charity.

Dana White in 2009 used the same word in an emotional diatribe against a reporter and a story, came under fire for it and immediately apologized. On several occasions, White has expressed the view that he realized it was a big mistake to use that word because of what is symbolizes to gays.

Diaz's manager, Mike Kogan, on Thursday night, defended his client's use of the word, stating that the Urban

Dictionary said the slur he used meant punk, and was not in reference to homosexuals.

I remember when this happened.

Caraway was somehow banging Tate and Diaz was pretty good then I believe.

Zuffa's statement was written by a PR firm. Everyone knows they don't give a fuck about stuff like this.

Strickland is wild, outspoken, gets into random fights.... he's a prospective PPV buy so Dana will give him a pass

This is laughable tbh sir.

Who was it that got cut for tweeting a rape van joke from It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia only a few days after UFC signed with the network that showed it?
I think this was right after Forrest and Rashad both got in a bit of trouble for comments they made. Forrest tweeted something about rape being "the new missionary", and I remember Rashad referenced the Penn State scandal against Phil Davis.

My favorite (though this takes a lot more context, and an explanation of shitty mma media tactics) was in the Fallon Fox era where Dana was like, 'That's a man, and he's not good enough to be in the UFC.' And then Rogan was like 'That's a man, and nothing can even the advantages he has fighting women.' And Mitrione was like 'That's a man, and beating up women makes him a twisted sociopathic freak,' and Dana was like 'Wooah! That's uncalled for! Here's a fine and suspension.'
