O'Malley seems smart enough to know the game and what he's worth to get paid to a degree, but it doesn't seem like he is any type of "McGregor" level star despite the kid-gloves treatment, so who knows how much that even is.

It's crazy to think he's been in the UFC 7 years. He really hasn't fought that much for the amount of time that he's been signed.
 
After years of Dana slamming boxing for the bullshit shenanigans and the best fighters never fighting each other, he turns around and does the exact. same. thing. once the UFC made some big time money.

It's a shame, building an actual sport for decades, then selling out the second you can.

Dana 'The pinnacle of upright truthiness in all things' White? No, damn, must've missed that gem of totally un-made-up propaganda. It's hard to keep up honestly, since the sport is so much more popular than F1, MLB, NFL, NASCAR, Jesus, FIFA, Boxing, Basic Cable Cooking Shows, Oxyclean, waking up thirsty, and porn combined.
 
He just won the belt and his first defense is to avenge his only UFC loss against a top tier bantamweight. I really don't understand the issue people have with the match up - seems like the fight to make.

Are you joking or did you really not see when he threatened to cut him for saying he wouldn’t fight o malley and that he wants aljo to get a rematch?

He left on a stretcher by choice. The calf kick contributed, but Vera not going away and slicing through his guard in 10 seconds was the main issue.

I think we get a similar fight to Pyfer and Hermanson from the weekend, with more brutality. I think Vera gets outclassed for two rounds and then O'malley slowly wilts. O'malley was blasting blind kicks and it's an issue he hasn't fixed yet. Vera was checking kicks and catching them on his guard before the calf kick even came into it. His fight with Moutinho had him out for ages. Vera is his best shot in the top 5, but is still a bad match up for him as he has been in there and outstruck better strikers previously like Aldo.

Merab is 9-2, has 3 top 10 wins, was ready to go and was a team mate of the guy he just beat.
Sandhagen has a win over Vera.
Aljo had 3 defences over previous UFC BW champs in his last 3 and had a less than 3 month turn around.
Yan arguably beat him in their last fight but the UFC wipes that from history by ignoring that he committed 9 fouls. Yan is on a 3 fight loss streak so no issues with him getting looked over.
CCC arguably beat Aljo without a scorecard screw up and is a former 2 div champ.

Vera is 1-1 in his last two with a recent loss to Corey and is the least deserving except Yan. It's a weak fight and should be called out as favouritism because they think O'malley will get past him.

Merab said no, sandhagen is injured, aljo maybe deserved a rematch but his title reign was controversial the whole way through, and this is from a guy who thinks he beat both yan in the rematch and cejudo.
yan losing streak like you said, cejudo just lost his title shot.
they’re not going to sit and wait for these guys to get ready, they’re making the fight that both guys want

Merab ddn't say no. He said he would only take it if Aljo wasn't going to.
Merab is fighting before O'malley is, they purposefully waited until his fight with CCC was signed to announce Vera and O'malley.

I am a Vera fan but it's worse than the Strickland title fight and he didn't even get a defence in. I think it's pretty weak to be honest.

Merab said no when offered the shot and kept pushing for aljo to get a rematch. This angered dana who threatened to cut him if he did it again
