Poatan is slightly overrated

He is very beatable but he did enough to get into the HOF. He might go down as one of the best combat athletes if he can capture a HW title. Most fighters are scared to take risks and Alex is willing to do it.
Easy to take risks when the company is giving you the best chance of winning every single time by matching you up with people that will play into your strengths. Has he fought one competent wrestler yet? Every opportunity he's gotten has been because he looks cool and has KO power. It definitely wasn't based on merit. Meanwhile Belal Muhammad...

85 and 205 aren't really wrestling heavy divisions. He fought Jan and survived on the ground. Jan isn't a wrestler but his wrestling was enough to stop Israel's move to LHW.

I agree, he lost to Blachowicz imo, thought it was pretty clear cut too. I think he beats most people on the feet but doesn’t seem like he’ll be able to put together a big win streak if he can’t stop takedowns.

Poatan is an underdog story in my opinion.
Sure, he's a destroyer on the feet, but his overall MMA experience is so limited compared to most of the guys he's facing, that he really should struggle to even get past the journeymen.

Somehow he just manages to hang in there against guys who should have a clear advantage in grappling.

He's fun to watch, what's the problem in getting carried on by the hype? That's what's nice in this sport, fans exercising their crazy imagination

What competent wrestlers? There's isn't much at 185 and over at this point. Don't blame the company, blame the lack for actual fighters who utilize wrestling as way of winning the fight. This is similar to when people would say Khabib fought no wrestlers, it's easy to say that but when there is literally no competent great fighters who use wrestling in the weight class close to their rankings and or level then it's just pointing a weak point in the said fighters division.

That's true. He also lucked out in that.
How did Pereira luck out in that, when the same Jan beat Adesanya? There is no luck in that, there is only skills and Pereira showed he's much more competent when it came to "wrestling" against a common opponent than Adesanya.
