Ricco was robbed against Nogueira!

but this was in all pride fights, right? instead of only on tournaments
Yeah. PRIDE decided that because tournaments were their main focus no elbows would be across the board.
It'd be too confused to everyone jumping from one rule set to another every other card.

It makes perfect sense when you think about it.

I heard so.many times how good Minotauro boxing was, trainning with cuban olimpic boxers yadda yadda yadda, but he consistenly ate knuckle sandwiches, blocked fists with his head, and had no power in his punches.
No power? In Pride,He dropped Werdum 3 times with his boxing...

Not to mention he KTFO of Brondan Slob and Pee Wee Herman

All hail JuggerNog.

PRIDE judge Matt Hume explains why Nogueira won:

1. Effort to finish by KO or submission:
Nogueira wins by a large margin due to his multiple submission attempts and active attack. Based on this, there is no reason to consider any further criteria as they are in descending order, however, for educational purposes we will continue.
2. Damage:
No damage from striking by either party. Possible damage from deep Kimura in round 3 by Nogueira, however, no award given to either.
3. Standing combinations and ground control:
Neither fighter showed superiority in standing skill. Nogueira dominated ground control as he constantly went for submission and gave away neutral position for inferior position, yet he was able to move back to neutral position with relative ease each time. Nogueira also had a forced reversal. Rodriguez had a reversal while Nogueira was passing guard. Forced reversals are more difficult to achieve and more valuable for ground control. Rodriguez was warned many times throughout the match to improve position but chose to stay in neutral guard without damaging strikes or attempts to pass to dominant position.
4. Takedown and defense:
Nogueira scored one clean takedown and defended 2 times. Ricco scored 3 Takedowns. Ricco wins this criteria.
5. Aggressiveness:
Nogueira wins by a large margin due to his many attempts at submission and his forward progression while striking. The referee warned Ricco many times in this area, but did not award a yellow card penalty.
6. Weight difference:
N/A. Ricco had a sizeable weight advantage but was not more than 15 kilos.

Penalties: No penalties were given although Ricco had many warnings to improve position.

Decision: Nogueira

You might be my favorite poster in the heavies. The highlight of any old school thread.

Bellator tournaments had the same rules. It's to stop cuts to the face from hindering fighters from having 2 fights in 1 night.

And? It’s a bs rule, which is why ufc got rid of it when they bought out strikeforce and ran events under the same name.

This.

Bas and Quadros said while commentating that they didn't agree with the decision ( because Ricco was on top ) . I thought Nog won on the ground . Nog's attacks totally shut down Ricco's offense . Ricco was forced to defend . You don't REALLY have top control when the guy on the bottom can attack you at will . I had striking equal and Ricco got the takedowns .

The UFC doesn't do same day tournaments. Neither did Strikeforce once it was Zuffa operated.
Pre-Zuffa Strikeforce Challenger cards used to have fighters have multiple fights on the same night. Hence no elbows.

Thank you, was gonna post this exact same thing. People are confused by this decision are using the judging criteria in the UFC. Different rules, different criteria and you get a different decision. Nog won the fight. Ricco did nothing but follow Nog around on the ground while Nog was controlling pretty much the whole action on the ground.

Nog won. Ricco layed on Nog and did nothing. That might win you UFC fights but in real MMA it dont mean sheet.

Also Ricco is hands down a piece of sheet. War machine level piece of sheet.

Read about his car accident with his ex gf and watch him explain it with laughter.

Right. How many one night tournaments did strikeforce hold in its entire seven year history?

Don't know how long it has been since watching that fight... But really... Nogueira is a Pride Legend. Plus.. Pride judging is different then almost all other organizations... I thought Ricco won... but it is what it is.

lol, come on gono.. werdum was green as fuck in the stand up back then.
Hmmm... It´s one of those lazy myths one can read in this MMA forum...

I suggest you study his whole career from the very beginning...
