Should Fedor have quit at 32 years old

He was past his prime and he lives on the other side of the world in Russia. Not surprised he fought some fights in Japan and Russia while being past his prime.

GSP retired at 32 with 2 losses after struggling with Hendricks.

Fedor was still technically undefeated at 32.

Both guys were already declining but still winning the last few fights of their streaks.

Only difference is GSP retired at 32 while Fedor kept fighting dangerous opponents. GSP only came back to beat 38 year old Bisping.

The difference is, GSP came out of his prime at a younger age than Fedor and yet is still fighting top guys

They both declined around 30.

Fedor kept breaking his hand and became less explosive.

GSP's knees got bad and he too lost his explosiveness.

I watched both guys' entire careers.

GSP retired at 32 and came back to fight 38 yo Bisping

They say hindsight is 20/20. Not for you my friend! In hindsight, though GSP's opponents were ranked, they all faded to nothingness quickly and GSP's boring decisions over them made GSP look like his time was up. Hardy, Koscheck, Fitch, Alves, Hendricks. Even Shields and Diaz. Condit is only 33 now and did you see him last night? GSP was obviously outmatched and smartly quit.

UFC's heavyweight division was not the best. It became the best once they bought strike force. Just like UFC's featherweight was non existent until WEC. You have some weird thought in your head like UFC was always the premier in every division...

GSP has been out of his prime from around the Shields fight, you know the guy who beat the guy who beat Fedor?

Compare who GSP has fought since Shields to who Fedor has fought since Werdum/Big Foot. It’s not even close

So GSP should have fought someone more credible like a mini Mitrione or Maldonado?

Except Jordan was in the NBA facing the unquestionably best of the best and putting up good numbers.
Basketball is a completely different sport than fighting.

Running up and down the hardwood and banging into bodies is not easy.

But it is sure a hell of a lot easier than Fedor's lifetime of Judo, his 40+ MMA fights and his concurrent Sambo world champion career.

Come on bro. Fedor was 40 years old for those 2 fights.

Fedor fighting Mitrione at nearly 41 would be like GSP fighting Eryk Anders in the year 2023. Think about it

You keep mentioning age. GSP is 4 years younger and has had worse career ending injuries

GSP is 5 years younger than Fedor and started his career 2 years later and has 15 less fights than Fedor. He also wasn't fighting HWs his whole career. Are you that surprised Fedor declined first? Use your brain

Age

is the point of this thread. At the age when GSP quit, fedors record was better than GSP. So just playing the what if game here and if Fedor quit would all the statisticians who love GSP because of his record proclaim Fedor being goat? There are many factors to consider other than w/loss ratio but GSP played the ratio well.

Big difference between 36 and 41.

Every year after 30 your testosterone drops a percentage.

Big difference between 35 and 38. Huge difference between 36 and 42.

Every year it gets harder in your late 30s.

GSP only beat Bisping. How about GSP fights Eryk Anders in the year 2023

AGAIN, GSP came out of his prime at a younger age than Fedor. He had 2 ACL injuries which usually ends careers.

Since the injuries he had fought:

Shields
Condit
Nick Diaz
Hendricks
Bisping at MW

Who has Fedor fought since coming out of his prime?

Big difference between ACL and hand injuries too.

GSP only beat Bisping. Fedor only got KO’d by Mitrione and should have lost to LHW Maldonado

GSP hasn't fought at 40/41 years old yet so stop bringing up Mitrione and Maldonado.

Like you said though. Hindsight is a wonderful thing. Fedor obviously felt he didn’t need to retire and proceeded to lose 3 straight fights getting finished in all of them.

GSP came back after 4 years retired not being in his prime and finishes the MW champion.

Damn GSP for not losing and losing to guys like Mitrione

He likely won’t either. What I know is both have fought different level of competition since being past their primes and one hasn’t lost and the other has

Who has Fedor fought since coming out of his prime?
Hunt
Zulu
Sylvia
Arlovski
Rogers
Werdum
Bigfoot
Hendo
Singh
Ishi
Rizzo
Monson
Mitrione

They both declined around 30 but kept winning.

GSP retired at 32 with 2 losses

Fedor had 0 losses at age 32

Fedor lost because he kept fighting. GSP has less losses because he stopped fighting at age 32.

How is that so hard for you to understand?

GSP got out at the right time.

Fedor kept fighting. End of story

That’s interesting you are saying he was out of his prime prior to Werdum because I can’t remember anyone saying that until he lost.

GSP kept fighting being past his prime fighting top contenders and winning

GSP got out at the right time, came back after 4 years, beat and finish a MW for the title while Fedor is getting KO’d by Mitrione

Fedor obviously looked less explosive and looked uninterested when he fought Hunt. He blitzed through Sylvia in 36 seconds but then looked slow and old versus Arlovski and Rogers.

Same way GSP blew out his knees but still beat Condit and Diaz since they have no takedown defense. Then he "beat" Hendricks.

They both declined but both kept winning a few.

Then GSP retired but Fedor kept fighting. Surely we can agree on that, right?
