Age has nothing to do with it. At 27, he isn't even in him prime yet. He's fought nobodies in the UFC, and fighting in the 3rd best MMA organization doesnt help his case either. That's like taking a pitcher from AA baseball and putting him in as a starter in the major league world series. There's levels, and if he goes from fighting nobodies to fighting future hall of famers, his momentum will likely be stopped and it'll hurt his career in the long run.

Having him fight up the rankings is the correct way to do it. The UFC is hurting for stars, and why is that? Because they push EVERY potential star into fights that they simply aren't ready for, they lose, and then they're no longer a prospect because their stock drops.

You really think a Zabit, after beating a guy that has traded wins and loses since joining the UFC, should be fighting the likes of Aldo or Edgar? In a year or two, sure. Right now? No. He needs a few more wins, not to pad his record, but to get acclimated to the deep end of the division.

Zabit needs a top 10 guy soon but shouldn't be rushed. He still needs to develop some and get used to the ufc ways. Maybe some cardio training as well.

Jones' first UFC fights were decisions vs Andre Gusmao and Bonnar.

Fedor's first decision was against Yanagisawa.

I can go on and on with Silva, GSP, MM and others that won by decision against cans or no names.
And Bochniak is not a can.

Styles make fights. Yeah, he won by decision against a no name guy that will not be ranked soon (yes soon, because even Jeremy Stephens is ranked... well ranked actually) and might finish a guy like Egar or like Aldo.
