when a house that is not built for the cold (or even those that are) experience power outages during sub freezing temperatures then pipes freeze and break causing thousands of dollars in damages.

also when people who dont have winter gear and are not used to the cold experience these temperatures their bodies are not able to metabolize at sufficient rates to heat them and lo and behold-- they don't have a bunch of winter gear available to put on to weather the cold either.

It is very misleading because it isn't just Texas that has deregulated generation. About half the U.S. is deregulated.

But almost every other place is on a regional grid to deal with shutdowns and demand spikes due to weather conditions.

That's really cool. Ultimately though the gator is making the best out of a bad situation, the temperature of the water under the ice is greater than the surrounding air and standing on frozen ground. And survival is still time limited.

I have kids at home and we have winter clothing. Even in spite of that I would worry about their safety of we went without heating for a few days and had no opportunity to find shelter with a heat source. Wouldn't you? Would you tell your 8 year old daughter to toughen up when she's complaining that she's cold? Would you tell an 80 year old lady to quit her bitching?

Yes. Not sure why people are so flabbergasted that solar panels exist.

The government is messed. we had the green energy act and they paid 80 cents per KWHr for micro FIT projects that were less than 10kw. The catch is it had to be domestic content from Ontario so the panel companies were setting up shop in Ontario from Russia and manufacturing solar panels for an insane price. homeowners were being sold a 250 watt solar panel for $4,000.00!
Today I can buy a 360 watt PV for $160.00.

10 years ago an incandescent lightbulb was 100 watts to light up one room. Today they have LeD lights that can run at 8watts and give the same amount of light.
