I only ask because in his own words he had been starving himself for years to fight at LW. Seems it is common practice, there's scarcely a fighter on the roster who doesn't fight at HW that doesn't cut. LW Edgar cut 3lbs, and Hendo at LHW, can't think of any others.

The fact that Conor could fight at Welterweight (2 weight classes higher) shows that 155 is where he really belongs.

Have you even seen Conor's fights? How many fighters can you name that were bigger than him at 145?

Hell he was even significantly bigger than Eddie Alvarez when he fought his only fight at 155.

Conor fought one guy bigger than him at 145 in Poirier and one guy taller than him (who is as big as he was now that he has filled out more) in Max Holloway. Ortega looks to be even bigger than Poirier though I haven't looked at his stats to make sure. FW's are getting bigger. Conor is definitely taller than Eddie, but Eddie is built like a tank whereas Conor is more wiry.

The fact that Conor fought at 170 without cutting means nothing. Does Luke Rockhold walking at 210+ mean his natural class is LHW? Does Nate walking at 185+ mean his natural class is WW? Does Benavidez cutting from 150 mean his natural class is FW? Of course not!

A fighters' natural weight class is where they fight without cutting weight. If weight cutting is permitted then a fighters' weight class is whatever he or she can safely and successfully cut to. Period. When Conor made 145 he could compete as a FW.
