This is a new thread, so it is obviously not going to have pages of replies. But all the replies soo far didn't have an issue the thread was made, excepting you. For a guy who thinks this thread was pointless you sure keep proving otherwise by replying. Guess you feel the need to get the last word in, for ego reasons.

The West is perceived as antagoistic to Serbia, because they are seen as close to Russia and owing to grievances from the 90s Balkan war. Like Belarus, they need strong allies and investment; Russia and China are the ones perceived as strong enough to counter the US / NATO. Countries like Serbia, Iran, Belarus can't afford to piss off Russia or China.

Our PM is a lesbian, and an ugly one. Our president is a former nationalist who came to power with the big help of EU, then switched teams completely and is a Chinese prostitute right now. But as long as he keeps Serbian nationalists in check, EU will turn a blind eye. Probably the most pathetic government in Serbian history.

As long as the Chinese factories go, they do bring those Vietnamese workers/slaves. They even have Chinese convicts working in a steel factory Chinese purchased here. All being done with hefty sums of cash taken by our politicians in charge and people are getting really pissed off about it.

Serbia, china, and Vietnam seems like the trinity for human rights violations lol maybe somehow Africa can get involved or dubai.

Thank Vucic aka pussy lips for allowing China to buy up and own Serbia and even use Chinese surveillance systems in Belgrade.

Unfair to lump the rest of Eastern Europeans in with the Serbs, the Serbs have always been a fan of a bit of genocide so this is hardly surprising.

Serbia won't care. They're getting cheap shit and tax revenue from the plant.
Or, maybe the problem is an insane power imbalance. There's cities in china with more Han Chinese in them than the combined global population of Serbs. Hell, China has about twice the number of citizens as all of Europe.

This is less about caring than it is about a carrot that's so big that it eclipses the stick behind it. Chinese global business practice is akin to predatory lending. Short-term benefits, but then they own your ass.

- The Chinese government / Chinese tire factory is building a tire manufacturing plant in Serbia.

- Instead of employing local people, they are using Vietnamese to build the factory.

- The Vietnamese workers (about 500) are treated horribly. Their passports have been taken, so they can not leave. They have only been paid once since May. They are shivering and starving in the barracks they are housed in. They sleep on bunk beds with no mattresses. They received no medical care even when some developed Covid-19 like symptons.

- Human rights groups / NGO have been denied access to the workers.

- Human rights groups in Serbia say the Vietnamese workers could be victims of human trafficking and even slavery

- The workers are trying to return to Vietname but can't without the Chinese employer returning their passports

- The Chinese tire company says it's not their fault, it is the fault of Vietnamese job agencies.

- The top Serbian authorities are trying to downplay the situation and blame it on foreign anti Chinese interests. Those Serbian officials who did speak out on the inhumane conditions still would not call out the Chinese company

- The Chinese tire company is also accused of violating Serbian enviromental regulations.

- Chinese companies have also been accused of human rights violations when they sent Chinese miners to work a copper mine in Eastern Serbia

Associated Press and others are reporting:

Vietnamese workers at Chinese factory in Serbia cry for help

ZRENJANIN, Serbia (AP) — They are shivering in barracks without heat, going hungry and have no money. They say their passports have been taken by their Chinese employer and that they are now stuck in a grim plainland in Serbia with no help from local authorities.

This is soo typical of China / Chinese companies and their infrastructure funding in the developing world and Eastern Europe. They barely use local labor, always using Chinese or foreign labor. They did the same thing in Montenegro where a Chinese company is building a road and bridge project. They did the same thing in Africa and Sri Lanka.

Montenegro mortgaged itself to China. Now it wants Europe’s help to cut it free.

This is also very similar to how the Gulf Arab countries operate: they deceive poor Asian laborers into coming there to build stuff, then take their passports, don't pay them and treat them inhumanely. It's a form of slavery.

so who were the bad guys in Vietnam again?

COVID Country violating human rights like usual.

Serbia has regional issues like Kosovo and as you said. The nationalists wont be happy if Kosovo gets recognition from Serbia. I doubt many in Serbia would be in favor of that yes?

You should read up a bit of history on that area/region before you just blame Serbs. The Whole area has being a hot spot for such things.

The rumor is that our president took upon himself to "normalize" relations with Kosovo, in exchange for a pat on the back from EU. He certainly did some major favors in that regard and has toned down his rhetorics which made people vote for him in the first place. But there's no way any politician or government in Serbia could ever publicly recognize Kosovo. There wouldn't be a safe place for them under the heavens. So basically, he's playing a dangerous game and taking his time; it seems that EU is starting to realize that he can't fulfill what he promised them. I'd say it's been around 2 years since he's turned to China for investments and big infrastructural projects. He'll be punished for it, no doubt, probably by another conflict in not too distant future.
