When’s the last time Rogan has called a UFC champion “amateurish” like he did with Khabib?

Ronda has never won a full round of pure striking in her entire career. Khabib just won two.

Didn't she TKO 2 women in fights where there was only striking?

Most of the time Khabib is not standing so we got a better look at him last fight.

I agree partially with Rogan here, Khabib doesn't have the classic striking 'look' - he's unorthodox. He's still effective, but the 'chin straight up and back' is probably what he gave undue focus upon. Sure if he's hit it could be a problem - but so far he seems very hard to hit.

Calling him amateurish was going overboard. I think just expects a little too much and would prefer to appreciate a 'classic' style rather than appreciate an unorthodox style. Khabib is still very effective.

Khabib was fighting for the title vs someone nobody wanted to see. Everyone is thinking about Ferguson or Mcgregor, including Rogan. He was speaking to that when he was calling the fight for obvious reasons. Nobody is thinking gee I wonder how TJ will stack up vs so and so when he is in there with Cody. This is expected

Khabib has never faced a top contender either. Those questions are out there. Even conor faced short notice mendes. Khabib went through Johnosn (1-5 in his last 6 and just lost to Elkins at 145), Barboza (tailor made striker and not a title contender), and now raging Al to get the title. Regardless of where you think Khabib will end up after testing himself vs the best, its hasn't been done yet. It's not 2014 (RDA then wasnt a top contender and he;s on a 2 fight losing streak at LW now) and Barboza isn't at the top level and tailor made style wise. Khabib has new tests ahead of him and everyone with a functioning brain is thinking about it
Hahaha goofball.

All of them are better than him, yes. Although I think Alvarez is also over rated

That's the point though, RDA clearly isn't a top LW today. He wasn't a top contender in 2014. Khabibs delusional nut huggers (not to be mixed up with fans) somehow ignore RDA's ranking at the time they fought, or where RDA stands in the division today, and then use a time in the middle leading up to USADA where RDA went on a winning streak to calibrate Khabibs win. Its bizzare. Out of the 3 time periods you could choose, time of fight, the present, or in between, they all magically look to the middle. Its just delusion. Cherry picking to build the story you want to hear

In fairness you're pointing out 3 fights where RDA lost and choosing to ignore the other 13 won during three separate win streaks that includes beating three former champs and two other former title challengers. Even with loses to Tony, Eddie and Khabib, RDA would still be looked as a top five fighter in the division if he still competed at 155 and you know he's the top challenger at 170. That's like saying RDA has no chin because he was finished by Jeremy Stephens and Eddie even though he just went five rounds with Lawler.

But she defended her Championship via 1st round TKO by pure striking which is actually better than winning the round. Just saying.

Rogan should invite Khabib over to his gym so he can teach Khabib a real fighter how to beat up heavy bags. He can share stories about how he kills Khabib's bear buddies with crossbows and shit.

Ronda didn’t need a full round to knock betch the fuck out.
Khabib is definitely bad in the stand up. Only success came from fear of the takedown.

Good post

RDA would e hanging around top 5, yes. I would take him over Barboza all day long. He's not a title contender though, he's hanging around on the fringe with guys like Alvarez. Yes they can string together a couple wins and get a shot but they aren't on the same level as the top guys in the division.

Believe me, RDA is irrelevant at WW. Yes the UFC has put him in the picture but he doesn't belong. Sadly, the Lawler that went to war with Hendricks and Rory twice is done. He's not even close to where he was 2-3 years ago. If you have been paying attention, that drop off has been steep. That's the point though, 4 years in MMA is a very long time. It's a long time in any sport. Where was hendricks 4 years ago? Anderson was on the most dominant streak in the ufc 5 years ago. 3 years ago weidman had defended his belt 3 times. Now he's lost to 3 different MW's, none of which are the champ. Yes we have to look at the past to gauge fighters but 4 years? dude that is very old news and almost never relevant. Someone just posted the 2014 LW rankings a few posts ago. Almost all of those guys fell from title contender within a year. IIRC in 2 years only 2 of the top 10 even fought for a title. Now 4 years later we have Alvarez hanging around the top 5 and none of those guys are relevant. RDA specifically lost 2 in a row at LW.

I'm sorry but I think I'm the one looking at the big picture realistically here. Unless you get very rare exceptions like Aldo, Anderson, GSP, MM, a ton changes in 4 years. In a 4 year window a fighter will emerge, make a title run, and fade from the title picture. RDA isn't some cherry picked case. We could do this division by division and era by era. RDA fought Khabib as he was starting to make his run, and today, it's clearly over. He would still be a very good LW but his days at the top are over. He can hang with Alvarez in the top 5. Getting all excited over Khabibs win over RDA in 2014 is absurd. Khabibs domination of Johnson, Barboza, and Al is far more relevant. IMO Barboza will get dominated by Lee

The issue here has little to do with what Rogan said but how people interpret what he said. Rogan was specifically talking about Khabib’s chin being up in the air and moving straight back when trying to avoid shots. That is amateurish and he we was right. If GSP, Fedor, Mighty Mouse or anybody was doing that he would say the same thing. It looked bad and it was. You can take it to mean Khabib’s striking in general is amateurish and be salty about it or you can take it for what is was, an accurate description of an apparent weakness in Khabib’s game.

Now does Joe go a bit too far with his praises and criticisms? Yes, of course he does, he’s human, name one person who doesn’t. Get over yourselves.

Is this the first time Rogan has said this about a champion?

Rogan has called TJ Dillashaw stiff during the Cruz fight, and told Schaub he would get fucked up by Velasquez who has found twice in 5 years. This is similar to calling a fighter an amateur.

Calling Khabibs standup amateurish was kind if anything.
