Why did Anderson turn into such a jerk in the Maia, Côté fights?

Before then he wasn’t a bad guy.

Was he being a dick because he didn’t respect the quality of opponents he was recieving?

He didn’t try stupid shit with Chael because he was a threat.

Why was he mocking and belittling them.
Anderson Silva akways dirsdthus whenwhe senses he may koae irogasga distinct disadvantage against someone.

Hes always done it. He is covering up by showboating.

He was trying to bait them into engaging in a striking match. He did similar things in other fights against grapplers, e.g., Weidman and Leites (to a lesser extent). It wasn't about being "a jerk," which is an awfully immature way of looking at things. It was a tactic.

Anderson wanted nothing to do with Maia's grappling. So, you can only imagine how pissed you'd get if your opponent just kept flopping to his back and making an MMA fight look like a joke. Coté, not so sure. I wouldn't be suprised if there was some shit talking before the fight though.

If I remember correctly Maia said he was going to break Anderson’s arm prefight and that set him off. I personally think Anderson blew it out of proportion and turned it “racial” for lack of a better term.

Because they were just standing around and not playing into his game. And "Mocking and belittling" is a bit of an overstatement he was just trying to get them to do something so he could counter.

If I remember correctly, my friends literally thought Anderson was crazy in the Maia fight. They really thought that something was off with him, because of the way that he was acting in the cage. And I think that was a common sentiment.

I just thought that it was tactics/strategy.

Too much ego.

You'd never see GSP doing turkey shit like that.

Don't forget Anderson's quote re: fighting his clone, implying no one else stands a chance.

He was trying to make them frustrated and open up so that he can counter them.

He's upset that he can't do his counter game against people who knows he's going to play that game and won't engage so he has to be a dick and taunt them.

i mean, if you're the champ and no one does anything all fight (literally) then it has to be called a draw and the champ retains the belt. The onus is on the challenger to win the belt. Why show up to a championship fight if not to take the belt? The champ, on the other hand, can say he showed up to a championship fight because if he didn't, they would take his belt away.

Maia isn't from a privileged family. Silva didn't know what he was talking about. he was talking shit in order to try to goad Maia into a striking battle.
Historically, people felt that GJJ was for playboys in Brazil, while Luta Livre or MT were for lower classes...

Spider was tryin´to motivate himself, after Maia said he was goin´ to take him down...

Silva is exciting as long as you come at him. If you sit back then it will be a boring fight bc he refuses to press the action. He also did this against cote. He then starts resorting to his antics hoping they will come at him so he can counter.

I've heard a couple of times that Brazilian men act a lot like American women. Seeing things like this from Anderson and some of the things from Werdum make me think it might be true.

wtf is a playboy? It's a word Ive heard all my life and never understood. Wtf is a fuckboy also? sounds like a twink

A fuckboy is what they call a player nowadays. An immature guy who sleeps with a bunch of girls and doesn’t commit to relationships.

No, a fuckboy is a guy who spreads his ass for men.

I think with Maia he was trying to put on an act to convince people it was Maia that wouldn't engage when the truth was the opposite.

Maia was trying telegraphed TDs from halfway across the cage at one point because Silva would not come anywhere near him. Silva was afraid of Maia getting ahold of him. It was the only prime Silva fight I remember where he wasn't aggressive.
Actually I would say Silva was rarely the aggressor. He made a career startching aggressive fighters. In the Maia fight we kind of saw what happened when an opponent wouldn’t open up against him

Yeah, engage a superior counter striker because you're the challenger.
