Why does Kickboxing recieve so much dis-respect from the Muay Thai community?

I'll try to track that one down also, thanks.

this is the best clip out there so far...textbook elbow...step in and throw. Rungravee was out COLD for a while..happens around 7:42

[YT]L1CGL4eHiA4[/YT]

*sidenote...many people say Pornsanae fights more of a "dutch style" than many Thais cuz of his like for low kicks and punches...BUT, the difference you see here as a gym buddy put it, "Pornsanae fights Thais...Rungravee beats up on foreigners"...different class of fighters

Woah, that was fucking crazy! Thanks.I'll try to track that one down also, thanks.I know Samart won a WBC title back in the day, but which Thais have medaled at the Olympics?

You're definitely right about guys like Zambidis etc most likely being unable to hack it in boxing too, most K-1 guys known for their hands don't even really have much good head movement, distancing or footwork etc except for Petrosyan basically (at least as far as I know).

Somrak Khamsing won gold at the 1996 Olympics and was one of the best Muay Thai fighters before that. Wijan Ponlid won gold at the 2000 Olympics and was a premier low weight fighter, and Rajadamnern stadium champion. Other Thai's have medaled since, that were Muay Thai fighters, but I can't verify how good they were.

Rungravee is a ch7 champ in thailand he is no thai fight can crusher

i never called him a can crusher...in fact he's one of the fighters i enjoy watching the most...but since 2010, Rungravee has been beating up more foreigners than Thais...and it's a simple fact that Pornsanae is/and fights a higher class of fighter than Rungravee.

he does but that is because thakoon from sasiprapa likes to make a little pocket money

Yeah Rungravee is not a slouch by any means, but he's not that active at channel 7 anymore.

Beat Awutlek a month or so ago at channel 7, though I thought he was outclassed. Also beat Rungpet Wor Rungnirun early last year with a weight advantage. Both good names, but I can't recall Any other fights at channel 7 in the last year and half.

For the most part he is a farang beater on international shows and Muay Thai Warriors shows.

Yeah, because a bunch of great Muay Thai fighters haven't crossed over to boxing and won Olympic medals and world titles as pros.

I don't see any kickboxing spam punch masters doing anything in boxing.

you dont know what your talking about

most thai fighters can barely punch

Kicks and knees are the priority, that doesn't mean they can't punch.

A guy who isn't a "puncher" in Muay Thai, but more a kicker, whose prime was like 7 years ago splits his time boxing and just went up a division and lost a controversial fight to Koki Kameda for a title.

whatever

I like and respect kick boxing i just know muay thai is better :)

in seriousness though, partcuarly here in the UK a lot of people associate KB with U.S shiny trouser kicks above the waist style rather than k1 / glory rules so some stems from that, also because many feel 3 round format is conjusive towards less technique and KB is not so complete and as much of an art.

That's what I think when I hear kickboxing the light contact stuff. I trained it for a little bit but it was shit.

I like both Muay Thai and kickboxing equally it just depends on my mood

Thatbjjguy is a troll, no need to pay attention to him. Dude has zero knowledge in muaythai
kickboxing boxing mma even bjj.

You missed my point entirely. Yes, I know it was around since the 70's but the popularity fizzled out in the 90's. Does anybody talk about American Kickboxing like it matters anymore? When people talk about Kickboxing they mean K-1 style, or most recently Glory.

- Ahh sorry^^
I discovered about american kickboxing in the movies, that's why i asked how was the scene back them^^

Were i live, i don't know if kickboxing was ever big, have owned some old magazines that talked about kickboxing, and i remember a guy called Zorello i think, but this was before i was born.

Yah, here people used to talk as K1 rules, don't know other places of the country tought

Edit: My original question:

- American Kickboxing was big as portrayed in the movies?

I have no respect for shiny pant spinning contest, but I am also pretty pissed about k1
banning of clinch and Glory banning of muay Thai trips.
Their fake reasons are it is boring, but look at all sad boxing clinch we got these days.
The fact that k1 only allows one Thai per tourney also does not help.

But I love kickboxing, their fighters got great hands.

I don't think the banning of the clinch was at all fake - muay thai fighters were clearly benefitting from the rules & so were large guys (Schilt & Buakaw), so it made sense to even out the rules so it's fair play for everyone - even playing field for people of all styles, not special benefits to one particular style.

That is why K1 was originally brought to being from seidokaikan (pro-karate) before that, to bring all of the best stand up fighters together to fight - it makes sense therefore that none of the rules benefit anyone.

They used to same rule for 10 years and they are all happy about it until Buakaw came
and raped their poster boy on national tv lol.
"Masato is the best, he beat all these Thai champ, it is impressive though we ban elbows"
They then proceed to ban clinch lol, just look at k1 grandprix boxing clinch hugfest.
They only changed rule so it benefit their guys, are you telling me you are happy
if they going to ban karate style kicks? No more mawashi Geri for you!
Other kick boxers are not trained for it! It is not fair they can change direction!

you're missing the point, a kick is a kick, you wouldn't be able to ban a mawashi geri or you'd also be banning the thai roudhouse kick.

Maybe initially K-1 did change the rules to help their fighters, it wouldn't surprise me, however elbows = higher risk of cuts, and cuts can end fights. Also the clinch can be boring at times when fighters use it to rest as they're tired instead of really trying to do damage.
Personally I like to watch K-1 and Glory without the clinch and elbows. If I want to see clinch and elbows I watch Muay Thai fights. If I want to see bare knuckle fighting, I watch knockdown karate (ie kyokushin, etc.).

You can't really rest in the clinch, it's the most tiring part of Muay Thai. Also it's nice with all the throws. I agree though that in can be boring at times but if both fighters are throwing knees, off balancing each other then it' beautiful

I'm not saying it's easy or not tiring, but some fighters use that to rest and not much is happening, especially when they're both tired and both trying to recuperate.

Wow, you know you just get exposed as guys who have never trained in muay Thai/karate by this post.
Muay Thai clinch to rest? This is not boxing clinch son, knees, elbows, throws. Tiring as hell.
Mawashi geri = round house? All Okinawan karate masters are crying in their graves right now.
Human who can't understand differences between karate/tkd style kick and muay Thai kick should not talk about this subject.
Hint: TKD athletes have problems with their knees, guess why?
