Crime Why the hell can't we do something like this?

I suspect whatever it is you're putting into "diplomatically" is doing unreasonably heavy lifting there. It should be pretty apparent that the general cultural divide can't be solved with nice words. The fact that there even is a culture war should serve as a very strong indicator of that, and an aspect of that culture war is taking any attempt to extend the olive branch and twist it into the opposite. Remember when Republicans were outraged when Biden criticized die-hard Trump supporters?

I am both a miserable cynic and a wide-eyed optimist.

They're politicians. Theoretically, they are the best people in the country at reaching people. There must be a way.

I mean, I think anyone with a brain knows it’s not a left and right issue. It’s a money in politics issue and a capitalist issue.

I wonder if the right stopped obstructing the left would push less. The game's the thing, not actually getting things done.

It's been said that if Manchin and Sinema didn't fall on the grenade someone else would have because EVERYONE is in someone's pockets.

America already has this. If you are a low income earner you qualify for Medicaid and if you are over the age of 65 or have some sort of disability you qualify for Medicare. Also there are other governmental programs that offer medical services like if you are a veteran or CHIP if you have a child and do not qualify for Medicaid. The people who get destroyed by medical costs are people who choose to be un-insured (about 5% of the population) because they want to opt out and save the money on health insurance. And if something catastrophic happens, well that's why you want to have insurance in the first place.

This is false and a bizarre generalization of health care in the US. The fact you don't even realize Medicaid coverage is on a state by state basis is hilarious. There's this thing called "expanded Medicaid" you should probably learn about, which not all states have. Regardless of that, health care in the US is a complete disaster on so many levels that it would take way too long to even get into it.

You can always spot the people that either don't or haven't lived in the US.

You should come here to Canada and enjoy our "free" health care.

Took my son to the emergency room a few months ago cause he needed stitches, waited 5 hours and never got attended. Oh, also not free, I get taxed heavily for it.

Also took him to a hospital in Cuba once (my son is half Cuban), they also have socialized health care... too bad they have none of the equipment needed to actually perform most of the work that is required.

In both cases I would have been happy to have the option of paying some money and getting it resolved, but no such option existed.
You can get stitches at urgent care centres rather than go to emergency room

You're contributing to long lines in emergency when you bring your son there for stitches instead of going to an urgent care centre

The only thing I'm worried about is if it's free, then literally everyone would be going to the doctor every week for every little thing

As expensive as it is now, even rich people such as myself, have to wait weeks to see a doctor, then wait a month to see the specialist the doctor referred you to, then wait 2 weeks to get a blood work done, then wait a week to get results, then wait 3 weeks to see the first doctor to go over your results, then wait a month to see the specialist that can treat whatever the bloodwork showed, then wait 4 months to see the first doctor to go over the efficacy of the treatment.
Canadian here

I go to doctor once a year, don't assume everyone will abuse the system

Good info, I honestly didn’t know that.

It doesn't have to be that way.

Plenty of conservative voters want these things and are distracted with culture war nonsense. I don't think I have ever heard a Democrat even try to reach out to them diplomatically.

Biden tried initially but honestly, he isn't an inspiring speaker.
People like Jack don’t think anything can be accomplished through unity. His whole world view is left versus right.

Healthcare needs to be blown up and rebuilt. Which will never happen.

I liked your post to thank you for your input, but it always feels wrong to like that kind of story. These prices are insane.
RSV is super common, and they have to suck snot out of the kid’s lungs every few hours, all through the night, for a few nights. At around 5k a night. The children’s hospital doesn’t have enough rooms to handle all the kids during RSV season. They have to convert rooms in another wing. The money involved is obscene. This is why we’ll never change.

I waited for around a couple hours (give or take) when my leg got Anderson Silva'd when I was a teenager. Waited around 4-5 hours (maybe even longer) when the tip of my finger was hanging off. I have a bud who can barely use his hand (can't at all some days) still trying to schedule surgery and it's been months. People die and go into medical debt in the US by the tens of thousands every year.

Our socialized healthcare (Medicare) is by far the most popular form of healthcare we have. In polls, even more than half of conservatives want a socialized system.

This ain't the hill to die on, especially if you don't live here.

I already said in one of my previous responses that I’m all for having socialized healthcare, while at the same time, having another option for people who can pay for it, and want to get quicker and better treatment.

That's fine. Every example I gave is using private healthcare, in the last example the individual has good/very good health insurance. Another buddy of mine has trouble trying to get insurance to pay for shit that is covered in his plan. He's a government worker and has a great plan. Be careful what you wish for. You can get better in a private system than these examples but these are middle/upper middle class people with good insurance, I'm not counting the wealthy.

You're not going to win an anecdote-off with healthcare horror stories from the US bud. 5 hour ER wait? Pfff. You say you would rather pay until your 2 day hospital stay or life saving surgery bankrupts you. You should stop while you're behind.
I went to a medical clinic once to get stitches on my forearm and I think I paid $200 out-of-pocket

Well, I’m certainly not wealthy, but yes I’m working middle-class and for most things, I would probably still use the crappy, socialized healthcare, but I would still like the option of something quicker and better if the situation called for it.

Because your officials, no matter what party, don't give a rats ass about you, haha.

If they would their politics about health care, drugs, minimum wage etc would be quite different.

I can fall into my own beer totally drunk, slicing my arm open with blood spraying out like it's a super soaker and get stitches for free while helpful germans from the bar will offer me bandages and psychological support on the way to the ambulance for free as many times as I want!

<JonesDXSuckIt>

Happened once, working on more subconciously

sounds like socialism that is very un-American!

Because we want to send another 60 billion to Ukraine right now and pay THEIR healthcare and pensions.

Sorry, you don’t matter

And we would rather teach our younger generations to hate white oeolle and Jews, rather than be able to contribute to society and strive for excellence and want to become doctors, radiologists, nurses, etc

It's 100% free every year, for every Korean after they turn 18

Why the hell don't we have something like this here?

- I know a guy that gives me 100 reais to check my prostate behind the local gas station. Do they have that on Korea?
