Would you be disappointed with your son if he became a plumber?

If I would have knocked up my ex and he got a lot of her stupid genes, a plumber would be a pretty high goal.

The guys I knew in high school that learned a trade and skipped college are currently out earning most of my friends with degrees...

Nah, if he's out here laying pipe then I'm a proud daddy.

I'd only be disappointed if he was fat.

My father-in-law is technically a plumber by trade and is about to retire this year. He's worked for Anheuser Busch for about 30 years now, doing all kinds of stuff from working on the keg lines to fixing things, etc. Because he's a plumber, and they work closely with other tradesmen on various projects he's learned how to do tons of shit. He's taught me tons of home repair/improvement stuff and I value it.

So if my son becomes a plumber, he better work his ass off, and be the best damn plumber he can be. That's all I can ask or want of him, regardless of the job he chooses.

I'd be proud of a son that lays a lot of pipe.

No I grew up poor. Hard work is nothing to be ashamed of. Quite the opposite. Every good thing I ever accomplished was through hard work. The kind of work is irrelevant.

But what if he's fat & can throw the overhand right like Roy Nelson?

I don't think a plumber is such a bad job. Salaries are good, plumbing is an integral part of the house. The son would be better a plumber than a drug addict or an artist.

I don't know in america, but here they do good money if they are smart and built their clients list
Good plumber make easily twice my money (safe contract nice office job)

Plus is a job usually people start young, so he may reach my current age with lot of money already saved and life projects, unlike me that i found the stable serious job at 31

People can laugh as much they want, if my son reach 30s with a property house already and looks good, he have everything to win at life

It's vegas there is a lot of thrashy people here who think their shit don't stink just because they're some VIP host or some low level managment shit. I worked a year at Palms as security. There was this bitchass VIP host at the Palms who was dating the "hottest" chick that worked at the club there. He was a dick, one day George Clooney walked into the club and walked out with his bitch. I'll always like George Clooney for that alone.

No shame in doing whatever you have to do to pay the bills.

I strongly disagree. While it is what it is and the country isn't deep enough into civil unrest to change it there is shame in being forced to do something you don't want to do to survive. People pretend otherwise cause the majority are sadly in that spot.

I was in a sutuation where a plumber was working on something and a couple of girls made some pretty disparaging comments. Kinda felt bad for him.

He was trying to clear a sink in a bathroom in a casino and some girls were there and basically told him his job sucks.
Were you the plumber or one of the girls. Also plumbers in Australia earn like $90k a year or more.

This is essential. I used to take whatever work I could get. Then I got fed up with slum lords and people who care more about saving a buck than getting a quality job done, so I started focusing on higher class clients. Now I work less and make at least as much while still being a cost effective solution to my customers problems. Hacks, apprentices and handymen can take the shit work.

Yeah, a coworker of mine moved there over a decade ago and was loving life the last time we talked. He gets to ride year round and makes good money doing something he doesn't mind.

No son , but I’d careth not . Just be happy , don’t have hella kids to support , be nice to others , stay humble , don’t have drug /alcohol habit , and invest money wisely .

My buddy makes 150k a year as a plumber who owns his own business. But the job does suck if sewage and shit, and being in areas that are covered in mold and spiders isn’t your thing.
