Would you give the edge to pre-Shogun Lyoto over Rumble?

No, I think Rumble would still catch him over 3 rounds. Machida never puts on a high pace so Rumble would be in the the fight for 3 rounds and have more than enough chances.

Nope Lyoto can't handle that level of pressure and physicality. That's coming from a fan.

Damn some of y'all really have forgotten just how Elusive and pinpoint Machida was back in the day. Rumble would be swinging at air the whole fight while getting picked apart and even probably get taken down a few times

Dc couldn't take down rumble in their rematch before rumble decided to wrestle himself. Cut it out. Rumble had the best TDD at LHW next to Jones.

The chin advantage can't be underestimated here. Rumble's is iron while Lyoto's is below average, and bordering on bad.

Lyoto isnt DC. His trips were amazing back in the day and rumbles cardio isnt anything special. Lyoto taking Rumble down in the later rounds after he gets tired is incredibly feasible. Also Lyoto has a good chin. Getting knocked out 3 times in your entire career by three incredibly hard hitters does not mean you have a bad chin.

He doesn't have a good chin at all. Lyoto doesn't push the pace though, so his cardio advantage is meaningless. His trips were amazing against guys who didn't have anywhere near the TDD of Rumble. Rumble is clearly the better wrestler than Lyoto.

Rumble would pressure Machida and knock him out. Hell, I might even take Rumble over prime Shogun.
Rumble would besmirch Shogun or any LHW ever just on the feet. Shogun is tailor made for Rumble, as he just wades forward and takes punishment to give it. Lyoto is more elusive, so he may last longer, but he would get KO'd just like Gus. The new elite LHW's are just light years better than the old ones.

Machida does have a good chin. You just saying he doesn't with no argument backing it doesn't make it true. The cardio advantage is a huge factor as Rumbke tends to wilt if he is unable to impose his will early on and Machida is the perfect fighter to exploit that with his elusiveness so Machida will be able to take advantage of Rumble fully in the later rounds. Im not arguing Machida is a better wrestling. Im saying Machida's trips are amazing and he is fully capable of taking down a tired Rumble in the later rounds.

He got knocked down by a right hook from Rockhold, it barely grazed his head and it rocked him. Shogun hit him with 2 clean punches and put him out, PRIME Shogun needed more than that to put away skinny Reem lol

Machida needs tons of clean punches to hurt Rumble, while Rumble could sleep Lyoto with a jab

Noobs and casuals saying rumble would easily destroy prime lhw machida. Dudes got cardio .maybe the best counterstriker at lhw. Extewmly elusive at that time. Prime machida that focuses on evading and pointfighting would make rumble look like an amateur. Hel gass trying to pressure machida throwing punches in the air

2016 LHW Rumble vs 2008 Lyoto.

Very interesting stylistic matchup.

What advantages would each have over the other, and who do u think wins?

Machida by countering Rumble’s blitz, dropping him (or at least stumbling him), and then submitting him on the ground.

No. Sokoudjou was able to force a ground fight against Machida even though he lost.

DC at worst humps him for entire fight. At best he beats Machida bloody and tears his head off during a sub.
Sokoudjou was a force of nature at the start of fights. His athleticism was ridiculous. He blasted ~prime Rogério and Arona and made them look like they had no business with him in the ring.
Buut it did't last long until people figured out he didn't have much in the tank, and the tactic was to weather the early storm
