The NRA has become an extremist group with a political arm that stifles any sensible gun reform, reform that the vast majority of Americans favor, in favor of their own business. They have made veiled threats of violence, so I would consider them extremist.

The NRA hasn't changed much in decades so I imagine they would be perceived as extreme in a country that's moved so far to the left that Donald Trump is considered right-wing.

Far to the left? What country are you talking about? The democrats have moved further and further to the center over the last 30 years. We have not had the dynamic tension between liberal and conservative views in quite a long time. This was one of the reasons Mccain called for general order in Congress once again.
