A 24-year-old British man faces two years behind bars in Dubai after he tested positive for cannabis.

Connor Clements claimed he had been sleeping on the floor of a cell with 25 other people before being released on bail.

Mr Clements flew from Liverpool to Dubai to get out of a “rut” in his life and landed a job as a waiter earlier this year.

He underwent a medical test for his new employer but was arrested when the results showed he had traces of cannabis in his system. Mr Clements said he had taken the drug before boarding his flight to the United Arab Emirates.

The reasons never to visit the Emirates keep piling up. I've got a high school friend living in Dubai who's invited me to see his place, but I doubt that I'll ever take him up on it.

If you find the appearance of oppulance everywhere fun, Dubai and such places are the place for you. If you find fun, fun, those places are not the place for you.

Stop going to shit hole countries. I don't care if they have money. It's still a shit hole with the way people are treated.

Maybe don't snap pics of yourself smoking weed. You don't look cool. (edit, not that the punishment fits the crime, just saying)

millennials will never learn this. they are also all over chaturbate performing sex acts. all those videos are then uploaded to other porn websites. good luck finding a job when the HR Manager recognizes you as an online sex worker.

they don't seem to grasp the concept of facial recognition technology.

dumbest generation in the history of the civilized world.

Guy post pics of himself doing drugs on the internet and you want me to feel bad?

Lol @ ever setting foot in a muslim majority country.

Thailand has the same law. If you got it in your system, you are guilty.
I mean how is he going to prove he didn't smoke it in Dubai?

Seems like his vacation...went up in smoke.

Same deal in Singapore. You'd think with all the warnings and media exposure the harsh drug laws in S E Asia get that young travellers would be smart about it, but it's the same story every year.

flying high, on my way to jail in Dubai.

Countries have laws and you shouldn't break them.

Yeah doing Drugs in Singapour would be even stupider.
I have been to Singapore only a few times but I think their Drug laws are a lot harsher than Thailand.
Also in Thailand, there is always a big difference between the law and what gets enforced.
One thing in Thailand is you can decline to do a drug test and pay a 1000 baht (30$) fine instead under Thai law. But only if you are a foreigner.
Thai laws :).

He failed a drug test for a job ..whats a picture have to do with anything? It's not like someone saw the pic, and reported it to his employer...

Yeah, Singapore is a totalitarian shopping mall and the least corrupt country I've ever been to.
I've heard no end of stories about guys going to the full moon party in Thailand, or spending a couple of months on the beaches of Bali, and then getting in serious trouble in Singapore on what is essentially just a stop over.
