Cops arrest 2 black men for no reason in Starbucks

?????
What?

If you frequent Starbucks, you should agree that it's pretty weird to get kicked out of one for not promptly ordering. It's a place to hangout. The company is run in that way.
So when 2 guys...that just happened to be black, get singled out for not ordering, after they said they were waiting on someone, and then the manager actually goes and calls the cops...yea...I don't think looking at a racial component is an illogical jump in this case.

But that's not the way it looks to have went down. They were asked to order if they wanted to use the John and refused then asked to order if they stayed. Refused again. Then told had to order or leave. Refused again.

And stop with all you guys saying no one orders drinks at Starbucks. U guys know that is BS

so then by your rational, people could go hangout at Starbucks head office, it is still a part of the business, fuck those guys should have just had their meeting in the board room, free coffee too. It's pretty obvious you never ran your own business, you think the franchisee wants people hanging out there all day without buying anything, how long can that business survive? Do you believe that head office pays the rent? the employees?, and other numerous overhead? Yes Starbucks wants people to hang out there, but realistically they want you to purchase something every hour or so, a coffee, maybe some cake or whatever. This is where common sense and decency come into play, two things you obviously lack, a reasonable person would say to him/herself "i'm going to use this space to do my work, hangout or whatever, but i will show my gratitude by purchasing something or things equivalent to the amount of time i use their space, that way this establishment can prosper and i and others will still have a place to hangout or do our work.

i didn't know i was being graded on my writing, but sorry you haven't established a moral high ground cause you're a better writer than i am, if anything you proved despite your education you are still dumb

please point out what hateful nonsense i spewed.

+++BREAKING+++***ANECDOTE ALERT!!!***

I literally go to Starbucks everyday, and sometimes I go in when the drive thru is full. I have dozens of times walked straight in and gone to the bathroom before ordering. I've also waited at Starbucks in multiple states to meet people, and waited until they arrived to order.

I have never once been asked to leave any Starbucks for any reason, including those circumstances. The manager's actions were clearly discriminatory based on race. And Starbucks is going to have to payout(most likely) for that asshat's racism.

+++END ALERT+++

Why are you so triggered about two men having cops called on them without incident and quickly released without incident? Would you care so much if the two guys were white?

You're right.... they have such a great culture.. are very polite and don't have a violent nature in the slightest. They are pillars of the scientific and mathematics communities. Their contributions to this world are huge... they are just victims of the white mans racist ways... these two innocent kids deserve a huge payout because they were victims of this atrocious racism

Look at his logic. He said it's hard to imagine getting kicked out of Starbucks unless

The police commissioner has said the two men were treated professionally but themselves did not behave in kind.

Seriously, work the math out. How many black people drink at Starbucks every single day? What is more a likely scenario here, that a major corporation suddenly decides they hate black people using their urinals, or that these two idiots made a scene and were asked to leave?

Seriously. Be honest. What is more likely? Use your brain.

And again the police commissioner was talking about their interaction with the police not before the police.

Your assertion is that they were asked to leave because they made a scene and acted like douchebags.

If you can provide any evidence on that I'd love to see it.

I am not saying that the manager is racist.
I haven't heard from on this story.
I think he may have just profiled them and assumed they weren't going to buy anything---and a big part of WHY he made that assumption was because they were 2 black guys.
I highly doubt 2 white guys would have brought the same suspicion, nor would the manager have gone so far as to actually call the cops on them.

Actually it's coming out now that a uniformed police officer was also denied the bathroom for not buying anything...

So even tho that should completely derail this story... it won't and people will still claim racism.

You're only thinking that the manager would've acted differently if the two people were white, because the manager is white. That's a racist thing to say. You made a racist statement

Lot of misinformation here. The guy in the video saying they did nothing wrong is the guy who just showed up and was not there when they were asked to leave.

It doesn't matter if they were angels. If they were loitering without purchasing anything they had to leave.

The lady who videotaped said they did nothing wrong as well

We are literally getting to a point in society where every incident is racist. And if everything becomes racist then nothing becomes racist.

This kinda shit doesn't help stop the actual racism still out there

How do u know how long they were there?

I had to buy a coffee 1 time when I was at a Starbucks. So I just bought 1.

Who the hell hangs out at a Starbucks without ordering, asks to use the John, is told u need to order. Refuses to order, doesn't use the John sits back down after being told needed to order. Then is told they need to order again. They refuse to order again. Then are told they have to leave if they don't order. They again refuse to order or leave.

Who's being unreasonable ?
Is that what happened?
From what I read in the article, they tried to use the bathroom, were told to order, and then they said they were waiting on a friend---the way you're describing it sounds like it was a terse, back and forth debate. The other customers in the shop said that the guys weren't being loud or disresepectful.

Look, would all of this have never happened if they had just left? Of course. I'm not debating that.
But the fact that they were asked to leave at all, for a Starbucks, is weird.
Again, multiple in the video are defending the guys, and they look more surprised about the arrest than the guys getting arrested.

Actually haven't there been instances where Cops have been straight out refused service at places lately

I don't know if you noticed, but this story is a few days old, and I'm just now commenting on it out of boredom. And also because I get tired of seeing the same idiots on this forum being racist on the sly, and making terrible, illogical arguments to support that racism.

Excuse me, "race realism".

But you aren't racist right ?

I'll treat every person the same regardless of race.

I won't ever judge a person soley I theie race.

But yes I am smart enough to know there are differences on the races. If you call that racist then fine

There's nothing wrong with talking about incidents as long.
I would say it is much BETTER to talk about them instead of throwing them under the rug.
When minor shit like this happens, lets address it, and keep in mind that it is minor--and it is not at all on par with some actual crazy KKK type shit.
But simply ignoring incidents doesn't help anybody.

My thoughts are that the manager called the cops, who arrived and tell the two men that they have to leave the private property. They refused, get arrested for trespassing and obstructing/refusal to obey a lawful order, get cuffed and escorted off of property, then likely released after a ticket.

I am very thankful that the men were cooperating and this wasn’t an uglier scene.

I have answered plenty of these calls, but only one time did the person refuse to leave-a drunk that got arrested. When people get really angry, I always point out that any private property has the right to have a person removed from their property. Unfortunately, they usually call the police rather approach and speak to the person in question.

They were asked several times. No one but a poster in here said they were loud. Actually the article does say the officers were not treated well. Not sure what that means.

I hear 2 people saying they did nothing wrong. But 1 is the guy they were meeting who was NOT there when it all went down

I hear 1 other lady saying something also but I'm not sure who she even is

Again, I don't know what would have been done to me if I refused to order when I asked. I just assumed it was fair for me to get a drink since I was in their business

DIdn't say no one orders drinks at Starbucks. Of course they do.
But Starbucks isn't a place that is on your ass to order. I could bring in food from another place and no one would say shit, you could literally stay there from open to close. They are known for being extremely chill

The police commissioner has said the two men were treated professionally but themselves did not behave in kind.
Melissa DePino, who recorded the viral video of the incident, told Philadelphia magazine the men did not escalate the situation. “These guys never raised their voices. They never did anything remotely aggressive,” she said. In the video, there appear to be open tables for any potential waiting customers.
