How big was tupac back then?

I'd bet my hip hop knowledge against anyone on Sherdog.

I know the music from Kool Hercs days up until now.
And 2pac is the best artist that came from the hip hop art form.

He was in the mainstream for his entire career, but didn't really crossover into household name territory until AEOM. Most of his albums came out when Dre and Snoop were on top so he was kind of overshadowed by that. His career took off after getting shot and going to jail. The controversy was great marketing.

Bone Thugs were blowing up in 95-96, The Fugees, Nas, Snoop Dog and Biggie were all also way up there too with big albums that were everywhere during that time period. Shit, I think even Alanis Morisette (sp) was larger than life at that time too.

The things that really launched Pac was the signing with Death Row, the East Coast/West Coast beef, and his death.. and that was all within a very short time period and then BOOM.. he’s dead. I think his Makavelli album is his best selling (that or All Eyes on Me) and that was post mortem (tho obviously recorded prior to that). His death is when I really recall shit getting crazy. But prior to his death he was just another big hip-hop artist putting out decent stuff like Biggie, Snoop, Dre, and so on. He wasn’t viewed by most as above those guys before he died.

He was known prior to ‘All Eyes on Me’, and he did do some films that were well received (so did other artists like Ice Cube tho).. but he blew up and became a legend after his death. Pac was not a universally recognized legend before he died. That happened after his death. People imo confuse famous and legendary with him for some reason. Had he lived he still may have gone on to become a living legend, but he wasn’t in that category while he was alive.

Fuck, now that I think about it -Nas was the guy most people pointed to as the ‘best active MC’ during that time period as far as the bigger rappers go. Biggie was up there too.

You're continually speaking nonsense but saying nothing to back it up

You sound more like an undercover hater than anything.

I think he peaked when he was allowed to do supporting work on a song for the Nothing But Trouble soundtrack.

I was vaguely aware of his existence. But not my scene, so considering the era, that in and of itself says something.

He wasn't that big until he started to pretend he was from Oakland. Previously his name was MC New York.

His rhymes were always simple and one of the worst beat pickers in hip hop.

Yeah odd name for a supposed "WEST COAST MC" who made his living dancing.

Yeah assaulting women and shooting cops is so cool bro. It's almost like he wanted to die to become a real west coast G! He was very smart though and politically when he wasn't rapping he had some compelling things to say.

Not even close. His rhymes were basic in his peak and super basic today. Not even a top 10 rapper at any point in time.

Thanks for your hate.

As one of your pals on the forum,

The saltiness ain't a good look brah. Just looking out for ya.

He was okay in his day, but didn't reach legendary status until his death. But I was really young back then and a Brooklynite so...

his lyrics are deep, especially socially awareness songs like Brenda got a baby, keep your head up that got me into Pac. I guess people can relate to his songs that's how he got famous to the level he was.

im 32 today and been listening to pac since I was about 10 years old, damn time flies by so fucking fast man, now im not from the USA but as a immigrant foreigner in Sweden we kind of related to the blacks and rap a lot as minorities, me and all my friends were all into pac and biggie growing up wanting to be a G, im still listening to some of his songs every now and then and still get the same feelings today..

Anyway to me, pac always was and always will be the man when it comes to rap, his anger and passion, voice and flow/delivery is unmatched imo.

RIP 2Pac !

There's no way in hell Tupac wasn't a side pillow biter. The Thug act was all to cover his fem side.
