From my experience, the most profitable way to play golf is "Field over ________________" after Rd 2 or if you want more risk after Rd 3. It's fairly common to see someone with a big name sitting 2 back off of the lead after Rd 2 with Field over (Insert big name here) at around -500 to -700. I know those seem like big odds, but realistically, he could have around 6 people ahead of him, 8 tied with him, and 20 within 2 strokes. His odds are sitting there only due to punters betting on a larger name. Realistically, he probably has about a 1/15 chance of winning. I used to parlay those all of the time with MMA and very rarely got burnt.
No offense man but I have legit no idea what any of that means
Ha he was basically betting the opposite of what you are (kind of). Like, let's say 5 years ago heading into the weekend Rory McDonald (huge name) was 3 shots off the lead and tied for 3rd place. But maybe there's 3 guys tied for 1st and 4 guys tied for 2nd, plus 2 more tied with Rory for 3rd. So there are 7 guys ahead of Rory, plus 2 tied with him. But because Rory was such a big name and top ranked guy, he could bet Rory NOT to win the tournament at that point and pay like -500. Which is a probably a good bet at that point with 7 guys already in front of Rory, plus 2 tied with him. Not to mention maybe someone one shot behind him gets red hot and blows past all of them on the weekend to win.
Long story short, Rory realistically probably has maybe a 10% chance to win, ballpark? So real odds should maybe be -900 or something to bet against him winning. But he was getting -500 or whatever.
Not sure if I explained that well...I never even saw odds like that at the books I used but it was working for Oblivian.
Exactly. 5dimes always had those. I haven't bet golf in a while. Honestly, I don't know anyone who is successful at betting winners. I think the books make a shitload off of punters in golf.
Burns earned that. He was putting his ass off, no?

Also and I am fairly good at all sports except golf legit last time I went golfing in Texas par 5 I wasn't even half way threw the hole and already 12 strokes in I quit and went home
EDIT: I am the opposite of you--I suck at most sports (I am quick, fast, and relatively strong, but VERY UNCOORDINATED. Unpredictable).
I have told this story a few times, and I am not sure if I ever did on Sherdog.
I didn't get interested in learning golf until Tiger. I got some old clubs free from one of my students, and he agreed to teach me a full swing. After a few times at the driving range, we went to a short 9-hole course. Granted, this was the easiest course in the whole city.
Guess what? I hit par on the sixth hole. Par on a hole for a person's first time on a course? Tiger Woods didn't even do that shit! Granted, he played his first round of golf when he was one-and-a-half or something like that, and I was twenty-nine. But still!
No lie i was a d 1 college level cross country athlete till I got kicked outta HS decent in all sports my very first time ever golfing was in Barstow Cali worse score I've ever heard any one ever mention by far shooting I shot a 217 lol
Damn. For three days, that's not a bad score. For three hours, though?
