Fedor, Nog, Cro-Cop, Coleman, Randleman, etc of the Pride Heavyweight Division were vastly more skilled than the current UFC Heavyweight Division, and last night's fight proved that.

Unfortunately, the UFC Heavyweight Division has devolved into a bunch of one-dimensional strikers that suck at all other aspects of MMA. The only exceptions to this rule being Curtis Blaydes, Tom Aspinall, and now Jon Jones.

Opinions?

The entire UFC has devolved into sloppy brawlers. Don't credit the fighters at the lighter divisions because their cardio is better. The ufc is actively looking for rock em sock em robots.

Are you saying that because Ngannou and Cormier are both retired/out of the UFC?

I think Ngannou/Cormier/Stipe/Jones/Blaydes/Aspinall beat the fuck out of those PRIDE guys IMO - that's not even counting up and comers like Pavlovich/Spivac/Almeida either.

The problem with the pride HWs was that there we’re a lot of the HWs that we’re really blown up LHWs. Most were also imo just one dimensional fighters like Coleman, crocop, and so on.

What did crocop do outside of striking? What did Coleman do outside of wrestling? What did nog do outside of grappling. They were serviceable in other areas but you are giving them more credit than usual.

To say these guys are better or more well rounded is fictional.

why is it after every championship fight sherbros go "yeah, the [insert loser] wasn't that good to begin with. also trash division"
instead of "wow, the [insert champion] is so good. way better than the rest of division"

Implying Coleman & Randleman were well rounded world beaters in PRIDE

Leaving Barnett out for washed and old fighters tells me someone OP is mewing moron. Randleman literally lost 7/8 fights and his 1 win was the CC KO. He got to fight Fedor during his lowest points when he was basically PRIDES Sam Alvey. Dude advanced for a fluke KO and made Derick Lewis look more consistent in meaningful fights. The glasses these boomers have are really rosy. 40 something Mark Coleman and Candleman (he was basically a can at this point) wouldn’t beat Roy Nelson or Ben Rothwell. Someone like Volkov or Sergei and anyone between would murder them.

fighters now are far more evolved than those guys. back then, getting mounted meant the fight was about to be over. that’s the reason commentators like rogan still make “oh he has full mount” a big deal when 99% of fighters get half guard back or find another way to sweep/scramble from there. it used to mean the end of the fight most of the time. fighters didn’t escape submissions as often, the fundamentals of striking are far better now.

it’s less competitive than it was then, and you still have some low level ufc HW’s for sure (regardless of era) but the elites now shit on the elites of fedor’s era.

Lots of angry Millenials and Zoomers in here angry that they missed out on the greatness of the Pride Heavyweight Division and are stuck to watching the UFC Crap Heavyweight Division of today.

And watching old footage is not the same.

Sorry, but ya'll missed out.

Fedor was well-rounded for his time but most of the guys he fought were not. The irony that TS misses is Fedor devolved into a one-dimensional striker himself almost 15yrs ago. I keep saying it but Fedor's last great fight was Tim Sylvia way back in 2008 and Sylvia was very one-dimensional.

What did crocop do outside of striking? Would he beat Gane in a striking match. What did Coleman do outside of wrestling? What did nog do outside of grappling.

To say these guys are better or more well rounded is fictional. If we look at Cain, Jones, Cormier, JDS, Stipe, and so on, this crop worlds ahead,
Barnett, Sergei, Aleksandr, Werdum, Herring, Mark Hunt could never make 205. Maybe Fedor, Nog and Cro Cop could have. We only know for sure Coleman and Randleman were able to make 205. Overeem fought at 205 and HW in PRIDE but after PRIDE was bought out he started getting really big and definitely reached a point to where 205 would be impossible.

UFC has had some good heavyweights but never had a division as deep and talented as PRIDE.

Cro Cop had 1000x better takedown defense and submission defense than Cyril Gane.

Nog was a very good boxer and took down almost everyone he ever fought.

Go watch both Nog vs Barnett fights or Nog vs Herring 1 or Nog vs Sergei if you want to see well rounded heavyweights.

You want to bring that era back? Kick out USADA. Clearly they had different rules for testing back in Pride.

How superior technique is related to doping? Its actually the opposite here, UFC brought about the new breed silliness, WWE fighters. Pride HW were skilled martial artists/competitive wrestlers
