Rumored Dana walked out of main event

no way. up until khabib became champ, people complained about his boring “suffocating” style. the excitement around his fights (which only emerged once he was champ) came from (1) his fans, who were excited to cheer for him in religious solidarity, and (2) the fact that conor put him over as a star. nothing about his grappling heavy style was any more “violent” or “exciting” to anyone else’s. to be fair, his championship fights were the most exciting fights he ever had. but there were so few, it’s a stretch to assume he could “do that to any man.”

the simple fact is when cory does it, people will perceive it as boring. cory doesn’t have a nation behind him. he doesn’t have a religion behind him. he doesn’t have a brash, charismatic personality. all he has is a reputation as an exciting standup fighter, which he did not live up to tonight. had his original opponent showed up and won in similar “suffocating” fashion, there would be accolades from the usual suspects, we’d be hearing about he’s the next khabib. everyone knows it.
The only thing boring about Khabib fights was that his opponents had no chance. Khabib himself was always active with pressure and gnp

No-one was watching this shit anyway. Everyone was watching Paul vs Diaz.

UFC was so much better when the fights weren't spread so thin.

Only a very small percent of the fanbase care about these fight night cards.

Go back to one stacked card a month.

you’re confusing your own excitement with his actual fights. that’s something fans tend to do. same thing happened with chael—he amassed an enthusiastic fanbase, and they perceived him as exciting, even though he would often win by grinding out rounds. that’s fine, but let’s be honest about it.

Its not just the problem of how many cards there are. With USADA,and NSAC,you have alot of fights being cancelled that wouldnt back then. Plus you have alot of divisions, alot of champions. These things need to be moved forward. Hence the cards.

It goes to show, that if someone can make you care about them,it really dont matter how they fight. Him putting it on the line with his mouth is enough to get people to tune in.

Khabib though def was alot more excting than Chael Sonnen or Jon Fitch in the cage

khabib when? after he became champ? sure. before? debatable.

Dana White getting pissed bc his fighter is refusing to get brain damage while paying his fighters pennies.

You sound silly by trying to compare this performance with Khabib. If Khabib was so boring he wouldn’t have the most watched MMA fights on YouTube and he wouldn’t be the most played fighter in the UFC games. He has a lot of enthusiastic fans because his style was aggressive, dominating and he was charismatic. Maybe you found him boring because you don’t like him, and never got to feel the enjoyment of watching him get hurt in a fight.

Cory talked about this change in mentality on Rogans podcast. He isn't willing to take unnecessary risks anymore and the focus is only in winning. Basically he is treating this as sport rather than human cockfighting.

He better keep winning then as we have seen Dana doesn't really mind cutting winning fighters if views them as boring.

Do people not understand, Sandhagen drilled wrestling all camp because he was fighting a Russian wrestler Umar Nurmagomedov, Rob Font his just as good as a striker, Corey Sandhagen who knows it’s easier to takedown strikers wrestlers, takes down the striker, boring ass main event I know but look at the context. The top 5 is full of wrestlers
