*** Anthony Joshua vs. Francis Ngannou Aftermath Discussion MEGA THREAD ***

Mercer was literally retired from boxing lol, and he wasn't anywhere near the champ at that time. Meanwhile Fury even in one of his flabbiest states ever held off Ngannou, the UFC champion.
So?

Different fight, different night, different fighters, different rules.

Im sure there was a point in there somewhere, unless you want to babble about basketball or something

Thought the ref was gonna wave it off after the 1st knockdown. That KO was brutal.

You're not wrong but I don't agree with the rest of your post. It's not that athletes in MMA aren't as good as other sports, it's that athletes in MMA have to know significantly more to perform well compared to other sports. There's way more to think about and learn in MMA than boxing and even kickboxing.
I'm not solely blaming the state of things on the quality of the athletes. It's also that the top brass in the UFC discourages grappling and encourages a very base-level brawling style that would get you f-cked up by anybody with quality striking skills. We need to go back to the days of lay-and-prayers.

Ngannou is 0-2 and boxing, it’s safe to say he didn’t fumble the bag but the bag fumbled him

You have to hand it to him.

He went into a sport he knew he had a better chance of succeeding in, and turned it into an opportunity to get beaten twice in boxing and still make double digit millions

Ngannou did MMA because his coaches knew that if he went straight into boxing, he would've gotten knocked out cold.

I mean, yeah, there are some guys who approach MMA like that.

Then there are great kickboxers, great wrestlers, great BJJ specialists that cross over.

It's not just guys that fail elsewhere.

Cope lol. He fought for the UFC interim heavyweight championship the year before, and his fight before Mercer was with Fedor.
Nice trolling my friend.

If you knew anything about the sport you'd know Sylvia was finished as an elite fighter from his back issues that were affecting him from the Randy fight onwards.

He turned up for the Mercer fight at 310lbs, that's 50lbs heavier than his "prime" performances, even by your own definition.

Name me one other fighter still performing at their prime after gaining 50lbs of fat?

My point is that boxers do better in MMA than MMA fighters do in boxing. The biggest piece of evidence of this is that a retired boxer (Ray Mercer) flatlined a former UFC champion who had fought for an interim championship the year before, while MMA's #1 heavyweight just got flatlined by a former boxing heavyweight champion.

Sorry but I don't think you're post makes sense. Damage over time is real and so is every big hit you take which means one hard hit and every hard hit does matter. Especially the most recent, and at his age.

I take that back. You dont know how to read.

So? It's not like he was fighting prime Mike Tyson. He was fighting a retired boxer who was well removed from his prime days lol. And even after the Mercer fight, Sylvia still went on a run with a positive record. That speaks volumes about how bad MMA fighters are.

Great kickboxers are crossing over now because they realize that the UFC is full of C-level brawlers who can't defend for sh-t.

They don't discourage grappling if you're finishing guys on the ground. The whole reason they encourage striking more is cause of the lay and pray guys years ago
