Nah, radicalisation of later generation migrants and the globalisation of radicalised Islam where it previously didn't have much of a hold at all, has overwhelmingly been from the Salafi "revival". It was visibly obvious in Malaysia, Singapore and Indonesia through the '80s with the return of the tudung/hijab and jilbab. The Saudis funding mosques throughout SE Asia certainly didn't help.

When you look at the attacks on Western Soil: 9-11, London 7-7, Madrid train bombings, Paris theatre attacks, Charlie Hebdo, San Fernando Valley, Orlando gay nightclub and many others..a distintive pattern emerges - namely all these attackers were directly or indirectly inspired by Sunni fundementalist ideology, especially Salafist. I can't think of a single Shia attack.

Saudi Arabia spent decades planting the seeds of Sunni intolerance and fundementalism and the West looked the other way because they were allies against the secular Arab movements and the Soviets.
