Machida had higher highs because he won the title, but Thompson’s style has more substance, where Machida’s was a lot of smoke and mirrors that went away as people figured him out.
Till. He went on to have that style of fight a few times. It’s one of those cases where that fight became his style. He used to be much more aggressive, but that fight was a turning point and not really for the better.
Did you miss him talking to DC about how he was taken down by DC and he wouldn’t let him up in training?
That, in addition to what we saw with Overeem would suggest it’s not the best part of his game at a minimum.
The key is they have to start young and has had a 12 year career. He also happens to have a skill set that lends itself to finishes. Someone else could do it, but there have to be very specific circumstances for that to happen.
It’s Sherdog. Only one fighter per division can be elite at a time. Everyone else sucks because they’ve lost. MMA is praised because everyone fights everyone, but the fans trash people who fight the best. We’re gonna see many more fighters take the O’Malley/Paddy route because of these attitudes.
They’d have to debut really young and have a long career where they just finish everyone. It’s unlikely. Just like it’s unlikely someone can win a world title in the UFC younger than 23.
Yes and Tsarukyan also doesn’t have any top wins though.
I don’t understand what’s so confusing about this. Typically, your first fight against a top fighter isn’t the champion. It doesn’t mean that Islam and Tsarukyan aren’t great fighters or couldn’t beat Oliveira.
What you’re saying is like...
I don't know how anyone can watch that fight and think he really dropped him twice. He hurt him, then Oliveira just sat down.
My vote is Poirier. I can't remember a fight where he didn't badly hurt someone on the feet.
Main event should be interesting. Did Jan just fall off or was that an off night?
And then Grant vs. Smolka should be fun. There's almost never a bad bantamweight fight. That's all I'm EXCITED for. Having known names is great, but not a ton of action fighters on here.
Yes, but Charles just drops to his back, eyes straight on Gaethje. He never got knocked down with the force of the blow. He got hit and decided to not get hit again.
Poirier on the other hand actually wobbled him and his legs got wobbly, IIRC.
Who is Islam not a bad matchup for? Why do people feel the need to point that out to others. He’s a wrestler with good grappling. It’s tough to deal with.
What happens when he SOMEHOW gets a hold of him? Chimaev is a three time national champion in wrestling and Stephen Thompson faired pretty okay with Burns on the ground. Not saying Burns can't win, it's totally possible. But Burns insta-subbing Chimaev feels unlikely. Who has Burns submitted in...
