It wasn't his choice to make. Fergusom wanted to keep it standing, Oliveria and Dariush took it to the ground and kept him there. The issue with Ferguson was the sheer gulf in quality on the ground; he legit had nothing for either man and barely threatened them at all. If that's Khabib, it would...
You're not getting my point. Sure age will lead to the gradual decline in ability, that much I have no problem conceding. But the issue you have is that the difference on the ground between Ferguson and Oliveria/Dairiush was not marginal, it simply cannot be explained away based on the elapse of...
You have to remember his fights take place far more on the ground than most UFC matches and he pressures so well that it's harder to generate power going backwards. His style helps him avoid damaging strikes.
The Khabib fight was literally scheduled 6 months before the Oliviera fight. Unless your arguing that Tony's ground game diminished by such a ridiculous extent from potentially beating Khabib to beating mauled by Oliveria in just 6 months, it's not a likely scenario at all.
Nobody knows...
That's great, but styles make fights and he was always outmatched by Khabib. There was a single year between when the Khabib and Tony fight was scheduled initially to a 3 fight losing skid. Technical ability on the ground does not diminish that rapidly from besting the best grappler in LW...
I don't see how he did. Yes father time has had an effect but he got thoroughly outclassed on the ground by Oliviera and Dariush, the warning signs were already there when Lee mounted him. Khabib is way too strong a grappler for any versuon of Ferguson.
His biggest issue is his fight IQ. Highlighted yet again in this fight and was on full display when he had Adesanya rocked and wobbling and decided to try to take him down against the fence.
Say what you want but the way Masvidal has, no pun intended, resurrected his career and made himself this big of a draw is almost unprecedented in MMA. A relatively average record and without the Conor fight, it's remarkable. Hope for his sake he manages to get that belt.
The only question mark is was Masvidal backing up because of his cardio or was Usman just simply able to pressurise because that's his strength. If it's the former, I feel like we were robbed of a much more competitive bout.
Ragdolling him and causing damage. Issue is the most significant strike Usman landed was an accidental headbutt. It was a safe performance but it just loses him fans and actually harms his stock
Usman got more eyes on him than ever before and blew it. Nobody denies Usman is the best WW in the UFC but playing it safe to such an extent against a guy who was clearly exhausted was shameful.
