Max didn't have the same experience but Conor made that fight look far too easy even after blowing his knee out for Max to feasibly offer a competitive match up the second time round.
After the first takedown, Khabib had Conors legs scissored up against the fence and Conor exerted energy defending it, thus didn't engage for fear of takedown.
The defensive strategy which they were speaking of was regarding the stand up... Perhaps something can come from attacking a little more and risk a couple of extra takedowns, perhaps we'll see more of the same. I'm unsure if we will find out though.

I wouldn't call any fighter a coward and in regards to inactivity I can't speak for any fighter any more than you can. However in his position I'd have retired right after the Floyd Mayweather fight.
