i wonder how US so powerful but not be able get more nations go along. i also not sure why latin america a christian place siding with muslims. i thought mexico israel close?

russia close with israel but they vote make sense half their allies in the former soviet states are all muslim countries. all 5 stan countries and azerbaijan all russian allies to be in they economic union USSR again muslim majority countries. make sense for them to recognize west jersualem as israel capital and east as palestinian.

Catholics don't really have a high opinion of jews though, also leftists hate Israel due to them opposing arab socialists and Russia.

Plus the resolution doesn't really claims Jerusalem is Arab, it simply reaffirms the previous resolutions concerning Jerusalem.

Rod's post are usually on the mark; not sure how he missed so badly on this one...

Dude, we hung around for a while to try to put the place back together, but finally realized that they didn't want schools, hospitals, and a civilized society so we left.

Right you went there spent a trillion dollars, got 5k service members killed with tens of thousands of injured ones, completed absolutely zero objectives and only made the terrorists stronger then left when the American public approval for the war reached political suicide levels.

But you guys won because you killed a lot of people, won what exactly I don't know.

Nikki Haley really seems like a wonderful person. So intelligent. So principled. So charming.

Good

Maybe that was the whole point to this.

To cut aid.

Please just cut all aid. Why the fuck are we giving away American taxpayer money to foreign governments?

This has always incredibly frustrated me about the budget
I'm going to have to disagree with you on this point.

The United Nations was founded in the aftermath of World Wars 1&2. You can argue about how effective the UN has ever been, but I don't think you can make the argument that things happen in other parts of the world don't effect us.

I know Arkain already has a massive Arab-Israeli conflict thread that involves some posts on this, but I think the issue deserves its own thread for a moment rather than just being on page 72.

The United Nations General Assembly has overwhelmingly rejected the Trump administration's decision to recognize the disputed city of Jerusalem as Israel's capital. By a lopsided 128-9 vote Thursday, the diplomats gathered in New York City ignored U.S. objections and approved a resolution calling on countries to avoid moving their embassies to Jerusalem.

Recognizing Jurusalem as Israel's capital creates a needless controversy and offers no tangible benefit to Americans. Also, along with the Paris Treaty, it symbolizes how the current administration is alienating America from the international community.

It is easy to ridicule the United Nations, but ultimately, America acting as a rogue state will- and really, since the administration of Bush II, already HAS- destabilized the world tremendously.

For those of you celebrating the US's decision to thumb its nose at world opinion yet again, remember that if we had listened to world opinion 15 years ago, we would have avoided that nice little puddle of shit known as the Iraq War... and from there you can theorize the dominoes that would or would not have fallen in the Middle East and North Africa.

Politically, it might be wise to remember that GWB exited office with an approval rating in the low 20's-- and voters cited a desire to return America into a position of international respect as a major motivation in the 2008 election.

*yawn...

UN condemned a ton of other people too and nothing comes from it.

Is there a list of how the countries voted? I'm having trouble finding one that is comprehensive.

Edit: Never mind. I saw the chart in your link. Thanks.

lol the lengths people will go to to justify objectively bad policy decisions.

I think we have sufficiently exhausted the possibility that Trump is playing 4-D chess or anything more advanced than Russian Roulette.

At least Micronesia, Palau, Nauru, Togo, and the Marshall Islands voted with us. We got the heavy hitters out today.
