If you find the appearance of oppulance everywhere fun, Dubai and such places are the place for you. If you find fun, fun, those places are not the place for you.
My bad, it was in Sweden he got arrested for pissing positive for pot.No he actually was trying to smuggle some into the country.
The problem is that the Western media portrays places like Dubai, etc. in a very favourable light as tourist destinations. Even though you don't really possess any real individual rights in such countries.
A lot of Western people get a very confused perspective of what's actually going on in such places. The reality is that you should be on your toes at all times in any Middle Eastern country, where you are subjected to obeying foreign rules and traditions, enforced by a foreign people.
These are not "multi-cultural" countries and there are no compromises made to accommodate Westerners, like there are for Muslims in the West.
well technically dubai is ´multicultural´ so is doha. The city and country (UAE) is most male, and men from pakistan, india, indonesia, filipinos, bangladeshis. And then blonde anglo women working overseas as massage people or hostesses or flight attendants. Then white british and upper class indian guys doing finance or computer work. And then probably some engineer american military and his family members and russian and chinese business men scatttered about also escort prostitutes of all countries.
It's multi-ethnic, but definitely not multi-cultural. Islamic and Arab traditions dominate the cultural life of Arab Emirates.
oh yeah. good point and difference between the two.
multicultural means embracing all other stuff right?
To be multi-cultural, means that the Arab Emirates would accommodate to Western or Indian styles of living. Which they don't.
Multi-ethnic countries can certainly function, as they have throughout history, often as crude hierarchies such as Dubai. But I'm not yet convinced that multi-cultural countries can actually establish an efficient and productive social order. Not everybody can get to play by their own rules, unfortunately. And reaching a viable consensus between cultural groups, seems enormously difficult, unless some degree of segregation is involved.
Lol @ ever setting foot in a muslim majority country.
Yup. A country can have money, baubles and fancy buildings but still be a shit-hole.Stop going to shit hole countries. I don't care if they have money. It's still a shit hole with the way people are treated.
